Reinforced concrete is one of the widely used construction materials for bridges, buildings, platforms and tunnels. Though reinforced concrete is capable of withstanding a large range of severe environments including marine, industrial and alpine conditions, there are still a large number of failures in concrete structures for many reasons. Either carbonation or chloride attack is the main culprit which is due to depassivation of reinforced steel and subsequently leads to rapid steel corrosion. Among many corrosion prevention measures, application of corrosion inhibitors play a vital role in metal protection. Numerous range of corrosion inhibitors were reported for concrete protection that were also used commercially in industries. This review summarizes the application of natural products as corrosion inhibitors for concrete protection and also scrutinizes various factors influencing its applicability.

The corrosion inhibition characteristics of Chrysophyllum albidum cotyledon extract was studied as a green and sustainable corrosion inhibitors for pipeline steel in acidic environment attemperatures, 303,313 and 323K using gravimetric technique. The results obtained showed that the inhibition efficiency increased with increase in extract concentration but decrease with increase in temperature. The extract attained an inhibition efficiency of 94 % with 5 g/L at 303 K and 52.2 % with 1 g/L at 333K. Also increase in concentration of the extract lead to increase in activation energydepicting an exothermic process.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) studies showed the mode of inhibition as adsorption of phytochemicals from the extract on pipeline steel surface. Langmuir adsorption isotherm best fitted into the adsorption process which is spontaneous and physical. Keywords: Chrysophyllum albidum, Pipeline steel, Inhibition, Adsorption.

The corrosion inhibition behaviour of four selected Mannich bases compounds, namely 3-((N-methyl,N-phenyl)-methyl)2,4-Acetylacetone(MPMAA),3-((N-phenyl)-methyl) 2,4-Acetylacetone (PMAA),3-((N, N-diethyl)-methyl) 2, 4-Acetylacetone(DMAA) and 3-((N, N-methyl)-methyl) 2, 4-Acetylacetone (MMAA) as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in 1M HCl solutions. Tafel polarization methods were performed to determine the corrosion parameters and inhibition efficiencies. Experimental results showed that PMAA is an excellent inhibitor for mild steel corrosion in 1M HCl solutions; showing a maximum efficiency 92.3% at concentration of 40mg/L. Polarization studies showed that the Mannich bases compounds can be regarded as mixed-type inhibitors and the inhibition efficiency of the four inhibitors followed the order PMAA > MPMAA > DMAA > MMAA. Then scanning electron microscope (SEM)techniques were also employed to examine the mechanism of corrosion inhibition property.

Three polymers, namely PAMPS (P1), P(AMPS-co-NVP) (P2) and P(AMPS-co-DMC) (P3), synthesized by common solution polymerization were investigated as corrosion inhibitors for N80 steel in 3.5 wt% NaCl flooded with CO2.
