ABSTRACT Pekin ducks grow faster and show a faster and higher thyroidal 131I uptake than Muscovy ducks. Treatment with a total of 15 mg stilboestrol during the first 4 weeks had no effect on growth, thyroid weight or thyroidal 131I uptake in male or female Pekin ducklings. In male Muscovy ducklings the same treatment caused a marked inhibition of growth, a decrease in thyroid weight and a lowered thyroidal 131I uptake. Thyroxine, administered simultaneously in physiological doses, did not prevent inhibition of growth. It is therefore concluded that this inhibition is not due to the lowered thyroid function.

Introduction: Intestinal parasite infections werecommonintropical country such as Vietnam. Having good knowledge of parasitic infectious prevention and changing risk behaviors can decrease the infection rate. Objective: To evaluate the parasitic infectious rate in Vinh Thai community before and after being health education and the changing of knowledge of parasitic infectious prevention and risk behaviors. Materials and methods: 60 households in Vinh Thai commune were interviewed their knowledge of parasitic infectious prevention and examined intestinal parasite infection by Kato technique and then trained the knowledge of parasitic infectious prevention. The interview and examination parasite infectiousrate were carried out after 6 months to evaluating their knowledge. Result: Before health education, the rate of intestinal parasite infection was 17.4% with the prevalence of Ascaris lumbricoides, hookworm, whipworm, pinworm, small fluke worm and co-infection with A. lumbricoides - whipworm, hookworm-whipworm were 0.1%; 8.0%; 5.8%; 0.6%; 0.3%; 1.2% and 3.0% respectively. Six months later the rate of intestinal parasite infection was decreased in 12.6% even though not statistical significantly. However, there were no case of small fluke worm and co-infection with hookworm-whipworm. Receiving health education, their knowledge of parasitic infectious prevention was higher significantly but their risk behaviors were not changed so much. Conclusion: Health education can change the rate of parasite infection with higher knowledge of parasitic infectious prevention but it was necessary continuous study to change the risk behaviors. This study concentrated on the assessment of the prevailing parasitic fish diseases in some marine fishes at Ismailia province and how to control the infestation using microalgae. This study was carried out on 1080 pre-mature fish (360 D. labrax (225±25 g) and 360 S aurata (150±25 g) and 360 M. cephalus (125±25 g) collected from similar ponds of studies to be examined at the end of treatment. In addition to that we followed non-treated fish (1080 premature). The infested fish showed dark colour and respiratory signs. Post mortem lesions were a presence of congestion or paleness and destruction of gill filaments. The total prevalence of infestation was the total prevalence of parasitic infection of non-treated fishes was 45.83 %. The highest percentage was in D. labrax 56.94 % followed by S. aurata 47.22%, the lowest percentage in M. cephalus 33.33. The total prevalence of parasitic infection in premature treated with 2 g algae was 28.79%, followed by 3 g algae was 23.60 %, while the lowest percentage with 5 g algae was 20.37 % respectively. The detected species of parasites were protozoal parasites, Amyloodinium ocellatum and Riboscyphidia in additions of marine monogenea, Lamellodiscus diplodicus isolated from D Labrex, Mugil Cephalus and S aurata. The present study concluded that, the use of microalgae instead of fish meal decreased parasitic infestation in marine fish. The histopathological alteration of natural infested examined fishes was also recorded.

American Trypanosomiasis, a parasitic infection commonly named Chagas disease, affects millions of people all over Latin American countries. Presently, the World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that the number of international infected individuals extends to 7 to 8 million, assuming that more than 10,000 deaths occur annually. The transmission of the etiologic agent, Trypanosoma cruzi, through people migrating to non-endemic world nations makes it an emergent disease. The best promising targets for trypanocidal drugs may be classified into three main groups: Group I includes the main molecular targets that are considered among specific enzymes involved in the essential processes for parasite survival, principally Cruzipain, the major antigenic parasite cysteine proteinase. Group II involves biological pathways and their key specific enzymes, such as Sterol biosynthesis pathway, among others, specific antioxidant defense mechanisms, and bioenergetics ones. Group III includes the atypical organelles /structures present in the parasite relevant clinical forms, which are absent or considerably different from those present in mammals and biological processes related to them. These can be considered potential targets to develop drugs with extra effectiveness and fewer secondary effects than the currently used therapeutics. An improved distinction between the host and the parasite targets will help fight against this neglected disease.
