Abstract Latent classes of health information-seeking behaviors of adults in a German-speaking minority of Italy were explored in a population-based, telephone survey on 10 health information sources conducted in South Tyrol, Italy. Data were collected from 504 adults (primary language German 68%, Italian 28%) and analyzed using latent class analysis and latent class multinomial logistic regression models. Three classes of health information-seeking behaviors emerged: “multidimensional” (23.3%), “interpersonal” (38.6%) and “technical/online” (38.1%). Compared to the “technical/online” class, “interpersonal” class members were older, had lower education than high school, and were less likely to be of Italian ethnicity. “Multidimensional” class members were more likely to be female, older, and of German ethnicity than those in the “technical/online” class. Linguistic ethnicity explains membership in classes of health-information-seeking behaviour. Policy makers and healthcare providers need to consider the health information-seeking behaviors of population subgroups to promote the health literacy skills of language minority groups.

Background and PurposeStudents in healthcare professions need to be comfortable and prepared to handle sexual health issues in their future professional role. The aim was to explore and classify response patterns of the Student's Attitudes toward Addressing Sexual Health scale (SA-SH), to increase the pragmatic usefulness of the questionnaire.MethodsResponse patterns of the SA-SH were explored with latent class analysis (LCA). The response patterns were analyzed for relevant levels of total scale scores for each class.ResultsThe total score of the SA-SH can be translated into three response patterns, enabling quick and valid calculations of students' perceived level of comfort and preparedness to address sexual health issues in their future profession.ConclusionsThe SA-SH is useful for measuring nursing students' level of comfort and preparedness to address sexual health.

BACKGROUND eHealth technologies have been found to facilitate health-promoting practices among cancer survivors with BMI in overweight or obese categories; however, little is known about their engagement with eHealth to promote weight management and facilitate patient-clinician communication. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to determine whether eHealth use was associated with sociodemographic characteristics, as well as medical history and experiences (ie, patient-related factors) among cancer survivors with BMI in overweight or obese categories. METHODS Data were analyzed from a nationally representative cross-sectional survey (National Cancer Institute’s Health Information National Trends Survey). Latent class analysis was used to derive distinct classes among cancer survivors based on sociodemographic characteristics, medical attributes, and medical experiences. Logistic regression was used to examine whether class membership was associated with different eHealth practices. RESULTS Three distinct classes of cancer survivors with BMI in overweight or obese categories emerged: younger with no comorbidities, younger with comorbidities, and older with comorbidities. Compared to the other classes, the younger with comorbidities class had the highest probability of identifying as female (73%) and Hispanic (46%) and feeling that clinicians did not address their concerns (75%). The older with comorbidities class was 6.5 times more likely than the younger with comorbidities class to share eHealth data with a clinician (odds ratio [OR] 6.53, 95% CI 1.08-39.43). In contrast, the younger with no comorbidities class had a higher likelihood of using a computer to look for health information (OR 1.93, 95% CI 1.10-3.38), using an electronic device to track progress toward a health-related goal (OR 2.02, 95% CI 1.08-3.79), and using the internet to watch health-related YouTube videos (OR 2.70, 95% CI 1.52-4.81) than the older with comorbidities class. CONCLUSIONS Class membership was associated with different patterns of eHealth engagement, indicating the importance of tailored digital strategies for delivering effective care. Future eHealth weight loss interventions should investigate strategies to engage younger cancer survivors with comorbidities and address racial and ethnic disparities in eHealth use.

Objectives: Population-representative studies of the sexual health of middle-aged and older adults are lacking in aging societies. This study aimed to identify latent patterns of sexual behaviours and health of people aged 45-74. Methods: We conducted a latent class analysis of the National Attitudes and Sexual Lifestyles Survey (Natsal-3), a nationally representative survey conducted in Britain in 2011. Results: Of the 5260 respondents aged 45-74, 49% of men and 45% of women belonged to the Content Caseys class who reported good sexual health. The Infrequent Indigos (31% of men, 44% of women) were characterized by a lack of sexual activity, reported some dissatisfaction, and were more likely to have a disability. The Low-Functioning Lees (12% of men, 8% of women) reported some more disability and had issues with sexual functioning and higher levels of distress. The Multiple-Partnered Morgans (9% of men, 2% of women) were characterized by a greater number of sexual partners and several risk behaviours. Conclusions: The use of these four classes can aid in improved targeting of tailored sexual health services to improve sexual function, sexual satisfaction, reduce distress and risky behaviours among middle-aged and older adults. These services should be inclusive of the disabled community.
