A new ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) material was synthesized by copolymerization of 4-vinylpyridine(VP) as monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate(EGDMA) as crosslinking agent and 2,2΄-azobisisobutyronitrile(AIBN) as initiator in the presence of Pb–1,5-diphenylcarbazone(Pb-DHCB) complex. Blank non-imprinted polymer (NIP) were prepared under identical conditions without the use of lead imprint ion. The synthesized polymers were characterized by IR spectroscopy and elemental analyzer techniques. Of the several polymers synthesized, only the imprinted polymer formed with binary complex of Pb2+–DHCB showed quantitative enrichment of lead ion from aqueous solution. The relative standard deviation of the five replicate determinations of Pb (II) was3.26%. The detection limit for 150 mL of sample was 1.6 µg L-1 using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The developed method was successfully applied to the determination of trace lead in environmental samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract A new and selective Cu(II) ion imprinted polymer was prepared by formation of 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol complex for selective extraction and preconcentration of Cu ions. Polymerization was performed with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a crosslinking monomer and methacrylic acid as a functional monomer in the presence of 2,2′-azobis(isobutyronitrile) as an initiator via a bulk polymerization method. The Cu(II) imprinted polymeric particles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and IR spectrometry. The imprint Cu ion was removed from the polymeric matrix using 2 M HNO3. Optimum pH for maximum sorption was 5–8. Maximum sorbent capacity and the enrichment factor for Cu(II) were 11.3 mg/g and 100, respectively. The RSD and LOD of the method were evaluated as ±4.3% and 8.7 ng/L, respectively. The proposed method is simple, highly selective, and sensitive and can be applied to the determination of ultratrace amounts of Cu in water, biological, and agricultural samples.

A magnetic Pb(II) ion-imprinted polymer was synthesized using magnetic Fe3O4@SiO2 nanospheres as supporter, n-benzoyl-n-phenyl hydroxylamine as ligand, 4-vinyl pyridine as monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinker and 2,2′-azobis(isobutyronitrile) as the initiator. The template was removed from the polymer using 4 mL of HCl (2 mol L-1). The chemical structure, morphology-particle size, elemental analysis, thermal behavior and magnetic properties of the sorbent were evaluated using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy & ImageJ software - Energy dispersive X-ray system, thermal gravimetric analysis and vibrating sample magnetometry. Various parameters such as pH, equilibrium extraction time, temperature and the eluent were optimized. The results showed the sorbent adsorption capacity was 92.3 mg g-1 in pH 6.0 media, equilibrium time of 7 min at 40 °C. Calibration linearity was 2-150 µg L-1 with detection limit of 0.3 µg L-1. The prepared sorbent had high selectivity and was successfully applied to the removing of lead in real samples.

A novel ion Imprinted polymer (IIP) material with 8-hydroxyquinoline (8HQ) (the complexing ligands), methacrylic acid (MAA) (the monomers), ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) (the crosslinker agent), benzoyl peroxide (the initiator), and ethanol-acetonitrile (2:1) (the porogen) as adsorbent for the determination of cadmium by solid phase extraction–flame atomic absorption spectrometry (SPE-FAAS) has been synthesized. Synthesis of IIP was done by precipitation polymerization method. The imprinted Cd(II) ions were removed by leaching method using 1 mol L-1 nitric acid. The IIP was characterized by fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to ensure successful synthesis of IIP. The experimental parameters for SPE extraction, such as pH of the sample, loading rate, and elution rate, have been optimized. The optimum pH for quantitative Cd(II) retention was 6, and the elution was completed with 2 mL of 1.0 mol L-1 nitric acid. The optimum loading rate was 0.5 mL min-1. Under optimum conditions, the proposed method with theoretical enrichment factor 50 times has a detection limit of 0.5 µg L-1 and the recovery of 97.75%.
