Abstract In this work, a novel vacuum-assisted strategy is proposed to homogenously form Metal–organic frameworks within hollow mesoporous carbon nanospheres (HMCSs) via a solid-state reaction. The method is applied to synthesize an ultrafine CoSe2 nanocrystal@N-doped carbon matrix confined within HMCSs (denoted as CoSe2@NC/HMCS) for use as advanced anodes in high-performance potassium-ion batteries (KIBs). The approach involves a solvent-free thermal treatment to form a Co-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) within the HMCS templates under vacuum conditions and the subsequent selenization. Thermal treatment under vacuum facilitates the infiltration of the cobalt precursor and organic linker into the HMCS and simultaneously transforms them into stable ZIF-67 particles without any solvents. During the subsequent selenization process, the “dual confinement system”, composed of both the N-doped carbon matrix derived from the organic linker and the small-sized pores of HMCS, can effectively suppress the overgrowth of CoSe2 nanocrystals. Thus, the resulting uniquely structured composite exhibits a stable cycling performance (442 mAh g−1 at 0.1 A g−1 after 120 cycles) and excellent rate capability (263 mAh g−1 at 2.0 A g−1) as the anode material for KIBs.

High-performance robust CNT–graphene–Si composites are designed as anode materials with enhanced rate capability and excellent cycling stability for lithium-ion batteries. Such an improvement is mainly attributed to the robust sponge-like architecture, which holds great promise in future practical applications.

ABSTRACTAn efficient microwave-assisted polyol (MP) approach is report to prepare SnO2/graphene hybrid as an anode material for lithium ion batteries. The key factor to this MP method is to start with uniform graphene oxide (GO) suspension, in which a large amount of surface oxygenate groups ensures homogeneous distribution of the SnO2 nanoparticles onto the GO sheets under the microwave irradiation. The period for the microwave heating only takes 10 min. The obtained SnO2/graphene hybrid anode possesses a reversible capacity of 967 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C and a high Coulombic efficiency of 80.5% at the first cycle. The cycling performance and the rate capability of the hybrid anode are enhanced in comparison with that of the bare graphene anode. This improvement of electrochemical performance can be attributed to the formation of a 3-dimensional framework. Accordingly, this study provides an economical MP route for the fabrication of SnO2/graphene hybrid as an anode material for high-performance Li-ion batteries.

Ordered mesoporous carbon nanospheres with uniformly penetrating channels have been successfully synthesized by a nanocasting method using mesoporous silica as a template. The ordered mesoporous carbon nanospheres were investigated as electrode materials for supercapacitors via high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption and desorption isotherms and a variety of electrochemical testing techniques. The electrodes with ordered mesoporous carbon nanospheres prepared by coating method exhibited good rate capability and reversibility at high scan rates in electrochemical performances. Ordered mesoporous carbon nanosphere electrode with specific surface area of 904 m2/g maintained a stable specific capacitance of 210 F g-1under specific current of 0.1 A g-1for 500 cycles of charge/discharge.
