AbstractI review some recent progresses in counting the number of microstates of AdS supersymmetric black holes in dimension equal or greater than four using holography. The counting is obtained by applying localization and matrix model techniques to the dual field theory. I cover in details the case of dyonic AdS$$_4$$ 4 black holes, corresponding to a twisted compactification of the dual field theory, and I discuss the state of the art for rotating AdS$$_5$$ 5 black holes.

In this paper, we study the thermodynamic of the charged AdS black holes in Rastall gravity. Firstly, the thermodynamic quantities of the charged AdS black holes in Rastall gravity are reviewed and the state equation of this black hole is obtained. Then, we investigate the [Formula: see text] critical and the Joule–Thomson expansion of the charged AdS black holes in Rastall gravity in which the critical temperature and the critical exponents are obtained. In addition, we get the inversion temperature and plot the isenthalpic and inversion curves in the [Formula: see text] plane, and also determine the cooling-heating regions of this black hole through the Joule–Thomson expansion. Finally, we investigate the ratio between the minimum inversion and critical temperatures, and find that the Rastall constant [Formula: see text] does not affect of this ratio.

It is thought that the final product of the gravitational collapse is a Kerr black hole and astronomers have discovered several good astrophysical candidates. While there are some indirect evidences suggesting that the latter have an event horizon, and therefore that they are black holes, a proof that the spacetime around these objects is described by the Kerr geometry is still lacking. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the possibility of testing the Kerr black hole hypothesis with present and future experiments. In this paper, I briefly review the state-of-the-art of the field, focusing on some recent results and works in progress.

We consider the parity-violating two-pion-exchange potential obtained from the covari-ant formalism in the past and the state-of-the-art effective field theory approach. We discuss the behavior of the potential in coordinate space and its application to the parity-violating asymmetry in [Formula: see text] at threshold.

Abstract We explore the gravitational implementation of the field theory Cardy-like limit recently used in the successful microstate countings of AdS black hole entropy in various dimensions. On the field theory side, the Cardy-like limit focuses on a particular scaling of conserved electric charges and angular momenta and we first translate this scaling to the gravitational side by a limiting procedure on the black hole parameters. We note that the scaling naturally accompanies a near-horizon region for which these black hole solutions are greatly simplified. Applying the Kerr/CFT correspondence to the near-horizon region, we precisely reproduce the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of asymptotically AdS4,5,6,7 BPS black holes. Our results explicitly provide a microscopic and universal low energy description for AdS black holes across various dimensions.

Various authors have emphasized the spatial information resident in an electron micrograph taken with adequately coherent radiation. In view of the completion of at least one such instrument, this opportunity is taken to summarize the state of the art of processing such micrographs. We use the usual symbols for the aberration coefficients, and supplement these with £ and 6 for the transverse coherence length and the fractional energy spread respectively. He also assume a weak, biologically interesting sample, with principal interest lying in the molecular skeleton remaining after obvious hydrogen loss and other radiation damage has occurred.
