AbstractThis paper discusses the issues related to retrieval of cases in a case-based design system. The limitations of the conventional approaches are brought out, and this is followed by a description of a new approach to indexing and retrieval. This approach aims at capturing control knowledge required for retrieval from individual retrieval examples. Since this approach is based on past retrieval examples, we call it RBEX (Retrieval Based on EXamples). The proposed approach is implemented in a prototype system called CADREM. CADREM uses design methods used in solving past design problems to solve new problems. This is closer to the derivational analogy approach rather than the more common transformational analogy. CADREM has been tried in the domain of conceptual structural design of buildings. Sample outputs from CADREM are also included.

Jet pump has different basic characteristics when it is used in different application condition. According to jet pump structural design matching technological parameter used in the oilfield unloading system, research on four kinds of numerical simulation algorithms. They are work characteristics of ground power pump model, target liquid production model, current pressure model and pump setting depth model. The results show that the four models can meet the needs of structural design and technological parameter calculation in different conditions. This paper form system theory, provide for pump design and selection matching for jet pump unloading system used in well.

[Purpose] To solve problems for lack of the design system for the trellis screen protective device, a general-purpose design system is required to perform structural design and make budget on materials required. [Method] Visual Basic and SolidWorks redevelopment technologies are used to develop this design system, where the user interface and dimensions of parts can be used to update 3D models for parts and assemblies; also, budget can be made on materials required for making the device. [Results] This system is proven to be able to greatly improve the design quality and efficiency. [Conclusion] This system has combined update of 3D models and material budget and will provide reference for other design systems in aspects of design flow and design methods.

AbstractHuman designers often adopt strategies from previous similar cases to guide their search in new design tasks. We have developed an approach for automated design strategy capture and reuse. That approach has been implemented in DDIS, a prototype structural design system that uses a blackboard framework to integrate case-based and domain-based reasoning. Plans, goals, and critical constraints from user-selected previous cases are combined with case-independent reasoning to solve underconstrained parametric structural design problems. This article presents a detailed example of design strategy recording and reuse in base plate design for electrical transmission poles.
