For a two-component bosonic system, the components can be mapped onto a pseudo-spin degree of freedom with spin quantum number S = 1/2. We provide a rigorous proof that for a wide-range of real Hamiltonians with component independent mass and interaction, the ground state is a ferromagnetic state with pseudospin fully polarized. The spin-wave excitations are studied and found to have quadratic dispersion relations at long wavelength.

We propose a charge crystal model that captures all the essential physics of the high temperature superconductivity (HTS) in the long wavelength limit. Based on the recent transport and the far-infrared (far-IR) experiments, we argue that the three-dimensional (3D) ordering of the pinned two-dimensional (2D) square electronic lattice (EL) in each CuO 2 plane is the building block of HTS. Incorporating the physical picture derived from the neutron scattering experiments, we demonstrate that our model presents a coherent picture of the HTS. We suggest that the charge crystal model serves as a model for the microscopic theory and, hence, offers the key to the mechanism for the HTS.

AbstractThe synthesis of cationic amphiphilic 1,4-dihydropyridine derivative, potential gene delivery agent is achieved via an efficient multi-step sequence. The key step of this approach is a two-component Hantzsch type cyclisation of 3-oxo-2-[1-phenylmethylidene]-butyric acid dodecyl ester and 3-amino-but-2-enoic acid dodecyl ester utilising bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ether as a solvent and 1-butyl-4-methylpyridinium chloride as a catalyst. The 1,4-dihydropyridine derivative with long alkyl ester chains at positions 3 and 5 of the 1,4-DHP ring — 3,5-bis(dodecyloxycarbonyl)-2,6-dimethyl-4-phenyl-1,4-dihydropyridine was obtained in substantially higher yield with respect to classical Hantzsch synthesis. Bromination of this compound followed by nucleophilic substitution of bromine with pyridine gave the desired cationic amphiphilic 1,4-dihydropyridine.

We investigate the magnetoplasma excitations in a system comprised of two parallel two-dimensional conducting layers separated by a distance 2d>0. The individual layers are assumed to have, in general, different effective masses, particle densities and charges. The dispersion equations are derived quantum mechanically within the random phase approximation and the spectrum of the long wavelength collective modes is calculated. We also investigate the mutual phase of two-dimensional magnetoplasma oscillations and show that this mutual phase is similar to that in the three-dimensional case and does not depend on the interlayer distance.
