UNSTRUCTURED The retrospective study of Taylor's three-dimensional external fixator for the treatment of tibiofibular fractures provides a theoretical basis for the application of this technology. The paper collected 28 patients with tibiofibular fractures from the Department of Orthopaedics in our hospital from March 2015 to June 2018. After the treatment, the follow-up evaluation of Taylor's three-dimensional external fixator for the treatment of tibiofibular fractures and concurrency the incidence of the disease, as well as the efficacy and occurrence of the internal fixation of the treatment of tibial fractures in our hospital. The results showed that Taylor's three-dimensional external fixator was superior to orthopaedics in the treatment of tibiofibular fractures in terms of efficacy and complications. To this end, the thesis research can be concluded as follows: Taylor three-dimensional external fixation in the treatment of tibiofibular fractures is more effective, and the incidence of occurrence is low, is a new technology for the treatment of tibiofibular fractures, it is worthy of clinical promotion.

Abstract This article assesses whether—and to what extent—turnout bias in postelection surveys is reduced by adding a short nonresponse follow-up (NRFU) survey to a mixed-mode survey. Specifically, we examine how the NRFU survey influences response propensities across demographic groups and political factors and whether this affects data quality. We use a rich dataset on validated voter turnout data, collected across two different ballots. In addition to the main survey that comprises computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) and web respondents, both studies include a short follow-up mail survey for nonrespondents. The results demonstrate that collecting extra information from additional respondents on so-called “central” questions is worth the effort. In both studies, the NRFU survey substantially increases representativeness with respect to sociodemographic and participation variables. In particular, voters and politically active citizens are more accurately represented in the NRFU survey. This tends to result in better estimates of turnout determinants in the final (combined) sample than is seen from CATI/web respondents only. Moreover, the increase in response rate and the decrease in nonresponse bias comes at almost no price in terms of measurement errors. Vote overreporting is only slightly higher in the mail follow-up survey than in the main CATI/web survey.

ABSTRACT The literature about tibial tuberosity advancement surgery in dogs and humans informed the development of a version of the operation using a wedge-shaped implant of titanium foam. Computer-assisted drawing and stereolithography was used to create instruments and implants that were evaluated by cadaver surgery. A trial, involving 26 client-owned dogs with lameness due to cranial cruciate ligament failure, was started. Follow-up was done by clinical and radiographic examination after 4 wk and clinical examination again 6–11 mo after surgery. The titanium foam implant maintained tibial tuberosity advancement easily and effectively. The same major complication occurred in 2 of the first 6 cases before, a slightly modified technique was used to treat 20 dogs without complication. At mid-term follow-up (6–11 mo), 20/26 dogs (77%) had returned to full function, two dogs (7.7%) had acceptable function, two dogs (7.7%) could not be evaluated due to recent contra lateral modified Maquet procedure surgery, and two (7.7%) dogs had died for reasons unrelated to the study. This is the first clinical report of the use of titanium foam in veterinary orthopaedics. Modified Maquet procedure appears to be an effective treatment for lameness due to failure of the cranial cruciate ligament in dogs.

This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of lekhanbasti and medoharavidangadilauha in the management of dyslipidemia. Consent from all the selected patients was taken before the study after explaining to them about the disease and the procedure. Ethical clearance was accredited by the ethical committee of Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital Guwahati, Assam. Patients from IPD and OPD of the department of Kayachikitsa of the aforesaid institute were chosen. Lekhanbasti niruha and tiltaila anuvasana on alternate days was administered for 8 days Follow up was done at an interval of 30,60 and 90 days. Oral intake of medoharavidangadilauha was advised during these 90 days. The basti was repeated in the follow-up period. After comparing the fasting lipid profile before and after treatment it was found that there was a significant change in it. Keywords: Dyslipidemia, Lekhanbasti, Medoharavidangadilauha, Medoroga, Fasting lipid profile.

Aims: The purpose of this study was to compare the preliminary efficacy of a computer-assisted intervention (CAI), in which a computer-delivered intervention was immediately followed up with a brief therapist review session, to a therapist-delivered intervention (TDI) for adolescent substance use. Design, Setting, and Participants: Both conditions were examined in a pilot randomized clinical trial. All participants were recruited from a family court in the northeast United States. The sample included a total of 36 adolescents court-referred for an adolescent substance-related offense.Measures: Measures included adolescent alcohol and marijuana-use frequency, quantity, and problems as well as self-efficacy to resist the urge to use.Findings: While no significant time-by-condition differences were noted between the CAI and TDI conditions, significant time effects were found for both the TDI and CAI indicating a decrease in the total number of alcohol- or marijuana-use days over the six-month follow-up period. Conclusions: Given that CAIs are inexpensive, require minimal training, can be implemented with a high degree of fidelity, and are portable when compared to some TDIs, their use for decreasing substance use and related problems, particularly among adolescents with low access to substance-use interventions, seems promising. A fully powered trial of CAI efficacy is indicated.

Radiolunate fusion is a limited carpal fusion procedure used for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. However, this procedure inevitably causes decreases in range of motion, especially wrist flexion. Linscheid and Dobyns described the possibility of minimizing the decrease in motion at the radiocarpal joint by slight distraction of the joint. We hypothesized for our modified procedure that a corticocancellous bone graft was inserted between the radius and the lunate with a small amount of over-correction could provide slight distraction of radioscaphoid joint and protect the joint from decreased range of motion after arthrodesis. Twelve wrists in ten patients with rheumatoid arthritis underwent radiolunate fusion. Mean age at operation was 53 years old and mean follow-up period was 5.7 years. Clinical evaluation and radiological assessment showed that decrease in range of motion was minimized compared with other procedures. Because our modified procedure can minimize decrease in motion, it is recommended.

Introduction: Ischemic nephropathy due to atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) is associated with poor event free survival. However, previous studies suggest that stenosis severity has a poor relation to kidney function. We sought to test the interactions of stenosis severity, and revascularization, on kidney function in people with ARAS. Hypothesis: Stenosis severity is associated with poor renal function in people with ARAS. Methods: The Cardiovascular Outcomes in Renal Atherosclerotic Lesions (CORAL) clinical trial is a prospective trial of individuals with atherosclerotic renal-artery stenosis. Patients were followed to a maximum of 8 years. Angiographic images were measured at a single core lab (University of Virginia) using quantitative computer-assisted angiography. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was measured using creatinine and cystatin-C, performed at a single core lab (University of Minnesota), and calculated using the CKD-EPI Creatinine-Cystatin C formula. The analyses are controlled by age and gender. Results: At baseline CKD-EPI eGFR was strongly and negatively correlated with percent stenosis (-0.2472, p<0.0001) and positively correlated with minimal luminal diameter (0.2974, p<0.0001). Interestingly, peak systolic pressure gradient and mean pressure gradients were not (p=ns for both). At three years follow-up baseline percent stenosis remained significant by univariate analysis (0.1380, p=0.01), however, it was not significant by multivariate analysis. Conclusions: Stenosis severity is strongly related to kidney function at the time of presentation in patients with atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis. However, by three years follow-up, this relationship appears to be lost.
