Purpose: To evaluate the integrity of lateral soft tissue in varus osteoarthritis knee by comparing the mechanical axis under varus stress during navigation-assisted total knee arthroplasty before and after compensating for a bone defect with the implant. Methods: Sixty-six knees that underwent total knee arthroplasty were investigated. The mechanical axis of the operated knee was evaluated under manual varus stress immediately after knee exposure and after navigation-assisted implantation. The correlation between each value of the mechanical axis and degree of preoperative varus deformity was compared by regression analysis. Results: The maximum mechanical axis under varus stress immediately after knee exposure increased in proportion to the degree of preoperative varus deformity. Moreover, the maximum mechanical axis under varus stress after implantation increased in proportion to the degree of preoperative varus deformity. Therefore, the severity of varus knee deformity leads to a progressive laxity of the lateral soft tissue. However, regression coefficients after implantation were much smaller than those measured immediately after knee exposure (0.99 vs 0.20). Based on the results of the regression formula, the postoperative laxity of the lateral soft tissue was negligible, provided that an appropriate thickness of the implant was compensated for the bone and cartilage defect in the medial compartment without changing the joint line. Conclusion: The severity of varus knee deformity leads to a progressive laxity of the lateral soft tissue. However, even if the degree of preoperative varus deformity is severe, most cases may not require additional procedures to address the residual lateral laxity.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate if tests used to assess core stability could be used to determine success in physiological tests applied to assess dynamic balance and agility for a young active population. Methods: Pearson's r correlation coefficient was used to assess the relationship between the core stability tests and the dynamic balance and agility tests. Evaluation of the tests was established using Cronbach's coefficient of variance as part of intra-rater reliability tests. An analysis of 18 active college aged students was conducted (males: n= 13, females: n= 5). The mean ± SD age for males was 19.2 years ± 3.22 years and for females was 19.4 years ± 1.14 years. Conclusion: The results indicate that there is no significant relationship between tests that assess core stability and tests conducted to assess dynamic balance in active young adults. With the exception of the abdominal flexion test, no significant relationship exists between the remaining core stability tests and agility T-Test. Core stability is not a determinant of balance and agility.

Women in postmenopausal period of their life face various physical and physiological changes causing lack of estrogen and progesterone hormones, changes in the reproductive and genitals organs, vasomotor system in the body along with mood related symptoms such as anxiety, etc. Lifestyle, body fat distribution and anthropometric changes adds on to the bone strength in postmenopausal women. It may be a risk factor for osteoporotic fracture, cardiovascular, metabolic diseases, etc. Core strength and stability is greatly influenced by body composition and adiposity. The aim of the study was to correlate the core strength assessed with the Body Mass Index (BMI) among postmenopausal women. The objective of the study is to find the correlation between the core strength assessed with the Body Mass Index using 60° flexion test, Beiring Sorenson test and Unilateral Hip Bridge Endurance test among postmenopausal women with age ranging from 46-70 years. 96 healthy postmenopausal women in Karad city with a natural history of menopause were selected for the study. Based upon BMI values, the subjects were grouped as Underweight (<18.5 kg/m2), Normal weight (18.5-24.9 kg/m2), Overweight (25-29.9 kg/m2 and more). The outcome values for strength were correlated with the BMI of postmenopausal women. In the study, the Pearson correlation(r) was -0.361 and the P value was 0.0003 showing extremely significant correlation between the BMI and 60° Flexion test. For the Beiring Sorenson Test, the Pearson correlation value was -0.305 and the P value was 0.0025 showing very significant correlation between the BMI and Beiring Sorenson Test. Correlation of BMI and Unilateral Hip Bridge Endurance Test shows a Pearson Correlation value of -0.322 and the P value 0.0013 claiming very significant correlation between the BMI and Unilateral Hip Bridge Endurance Test. The study concludes that there is a significantly negative correlation between the core strength and stability with the Body Mass Index among postmenopausal women.

Three-dimensional kinematics of the ulnohumeral joint under simulated active elbow joint flexion-extension was obtained by using an electromagnetic tacking device. The joint motion was analyzed based on Eulerian angle description. In order to minimize the effect of "downstream cross-talk" on calculation of the three Eulerian angles, an optimal axis to best represent flexion-extension of the elbow joint was established. This axis, on average, is close to the line joining the centers of the capitellum and the trochlear groove. Furthermore, joint laxity under valgus-varus stress was also examined. With the weight of the forearm as the stress, maximums of 7.6° valgus-varus laxity and 5.3° axial rotation laxity were observed within a range of elbow flexion. The results of this study provide useful baseline information on joint laxity for the evaluation of elbow joints with implant replacements and other surgical treatment modalities.
