Women in postmenopausal period of their life face various physical and physiological changes causing lack of estrogen and progesterone hormones, changes in the reproductive and genitals organs, vasomotor system in the body along with mood related symptoms such as anxiety, etc. Lifestyle, body fat distribution and anthropometric changes adds on to the bone strength in postmenopausal women. It may be a risk factor for osteoporotic fracture, cardiovascular, metabolic diseases, etc. Core strength and stability is greatly influenced by body composition and adiposity. The aim of the study was to correlate the core strength assessed with the Body Mass Index (BMI) among postmenopausal women. The objective of the study is to find the correlation between the core strength assessed with the Body Mass Index using 60° flexion test, Beiring Sorenson test and Unilateral Hip Bridge Endurance test among postmenopausal women with age ranging from 46-70 years. 96 healthy postmenopausal women in Karad city with a natural history of menopause were selected for the study. Based upon BMI values, the subjects were grouped as Underweight (<18.5 kg/m2), Normal weight (18.5-24.9 kg/m2), Overweight (25-29.9 kg/m2 and more). The outcome values for strength were correlated with the BMI of postmenopausal women. In the study, the Pearson correlation(r) was -0.361 and the P value was 0.0003 showing extremely significant correlation between the BMI and 60° Flexion test. For the Beiring Sorenson Test, the Pearson correlation value was -0.305 and the P value was 0.0025 showing very significant correlation between the BMI and Beiring Sorenson Test. Correlation of BMI and Unilateral Hip Bridge Endurance Test shows a Pearson Correlation value of -0.322 and the P value 0.0013 claiming very significant correlation between the BMI and Unilateral Hip Bridge Endurance Test. The study concludes that there is a significantly negative correlation between the core strength and stability with the Body Mass Index among postmenopausal women.

the world. Ionizing radiation-based diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are increasingly being used in daily clinical practice, especially in cardiology during coronary angiography. The health risks of radiation are well known. Obesity has now become an epidemic. To investigate whether the patient's Body Mass Index (BMI) has an effect on the radiation dose received by the patient during diagnostic coronary angiography. This study was an analytical observational study with a cross sectional study design to analyze the dose parameters of 48 patients who underwent coronary angiography procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Patient clinical radiation dose data in the form of kerma-area-product (DAP) and air-kerma at the intervention reference point (Ka, r) with information on the patient's height and weight to calculate the body mass index value. The data obtained were analyzed using Pearson Correlation. The statistical test conducted shows that the value of BMI against DAP and KERMA has a P-value of 0.003 and 0.006, respectively. Because P-vaue is less than α = 0.01, there is a significant linear relationship between BMI and DAP values as well as BMI and KERMA. Obese patients require higher radiation doses than those with a normal BMI. Thus it can be used as a reference for increasing the radiation dose when performing the procedure in patients with increased BMI.

Background: Milk products fortified with vitamin D may constitute an alternative to pharmacological supplements for reaching the optimal levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D]. Our aim was to analyze the response of serum 25(OH)D and its predictive factors in postmenopausal healthy women after a dietary intervention with a milk fortified with vitamin D and calcium. Methods: We designed a prospective study including 305 healthy postmenopausal women who consumed a fortified milk with calcium (900 mg/500 mL) and vitamin D3 (600 IU/500 mL) daily for 24 months. Results: The 25(OH)D concentrations at 24 months were correlated to weight, to body mass index, to the percentage of fat, triglycerides and to baseline 25(OH)D levels. We found significant differences in the levels of 25(OH)D at 24 months according to baseline 25(OH)D levels (p < 0.001) and body mass index (p = 0.019) expressed at quartiles. Multivariate analysis showed an association between levels of 25(OH)D after the intervention and at baseline 25(OH)D (Beta = 0.47, p < 0.001) and percentage of body fat (Beta = −0.227, p = 0.049), regardless of the body mass index. Conclusions: In healthy postmenopausal women, the improvement in 25(OH)D after an intervention with a fortified milk for 24 months depends mainly on the baseline levels of serum 25(OH)D and on the percentage of body fat.

Abstract. The following study aimed at determining the correlation between body composition and physical condition in sixth grade students from the high school Institución Educativa Moderna in Tuluá, Colombia. It was carried as a non-experimental, descriptive, and correlational study. The assessment of body composition was carried out using the body mass index and the fat percentage based on Slaughter and Lohmann formula. Physical condition was determined by using the Fitnessgram battery. The sample consisted of 193 boys and girls, around eight and 12 years old. The results were determined by means of descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. These results showed r = -0.52 and -0.72 for boys and girls respectively, after correlating the percentage of fat and cardiovascular capacity. The correlation of their body mass index and their body weight, towards the percentage of fat were: r = 0.59 girl, 0.76 boy and r = 0.46 girl and 0.67 boy respectively, indicating that, the higher the body mass the higher the increase of fat. The correlation between fat mass and the fixed bar test was inverse, but not high: r = -0.23 and -0.24. However, when this test was correlated with the body mass index, that correlation was higher: r = -0.57 and -0.78, reflecting that the body mass affected the resistance at the bar. Flexibility and agility were not altered by fat mass: r <0.20. In conclusion, it is evidenced that fat mass can decrease cardiovascular capacity and resistance to strength, however, flexibility and speed-agility may not be altered.

(1) Objective: This study analyzes the evolution of the body mass index (BMI) throughout the academic year associated with changes in the lifestyle associated with the place where students live during the course, lifestyle design, and health strategies for the university community. (2) Methods: A total of 93 first-year nursing students participated in this study. Data were collected throughout the course by administering self-reported questionnaires about eating habits and lifestyles, weight, and height to calculate their BMI and place of residence throughout the course. Data were analyzed using statistical analysis (Mann–Whitney, chi-square, Student’s t-test, repeated-measures analysis of variance, and least significant difference tests). (3) Results: We found that the mean BMI increases significantly throughout the course among all students regardless of sex, age, eating habits, or where they live during the course. At the beginning of the course, the mean BMI was 22.10 ± 3.64. The mean difference between the beginning of the course and the middle has a value of p-value < 0.015 and between the middle of the course and the end a p-value < 0.009. The group that increased the most is found among students who continue to live in the family nucleus rather than those who live alone or in residence. Students significantly changed their eating and health habits, especially those who live alone or in residence. (4) Conclusions: There is an increase in BMI among students. It is necessary to carry out seminars or talks that can help students understand the importance of good eating practices and healthy habits to maintain their weight and, therefore, their health, in the short, medium, and long term and acquire a good quality of life.

Obesity occurs due to excessive fat deposits in the body, one of which is a poor diet. The relationship between overweight and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is mediated through several mechanisms of adiponectin, leptin, and resistin, the development of inflammation, oxidative stress, abnormal lipid metabolism, and activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between body mass index and estimated glomerular filtration rate in overweight students at the Health Analyst Department of Pontianak Health Polytechnic. The research design used was cross-sectional. This research was conducted on May 14-18, 2018. The population is a student health analyst. With the criteria for students from the 2015 and 2016 batches who are still active, BMI 23-29.9 Kg/m² and aged 18 to 22 years, totaling 37 respondents. The sampling technique used is total sampling. Performed include measurements of BMI, serum creatinine Jaffe method, fixed time and ELFG Cokroft-Gault formula. The results obtained using the Kendall's tau test showed that the p value (0.906) was greater than (0.05) meaning that there was no relationship between body mass index and estimated glomerular filtration rate in overweight students at the Health Analyst Department of Pontianak Health Polytechnic.
