ABSTRACTWater-dispersible amphiphilic surface-engineered quantum dots (QDs) were found to be strongly accumulated within discrete zones of the exopolymer network ofShewanella oneidensisMR-1 biofilms, but not on the cell surfaces. These microdomains showed a patterned distribution in the exopolymer matrix, which led to a restricted diffusion of the amphiphilic nanoparticles.

Gram scale N-doped GQDs were prepared using a facile one-pot method by polymerization of nitrilotriacetic acid, showing a purity of over 99% without a dialysis process, a synthetic yield of 46% and a quantum yield of 45.8%.
