Facial reconstruction is the process of reconstructing the geometry of faces of persons from skeletal remains. A research group (<i>BME Cooperation Research Center for Biomechanics</i>) was formed representing several organisations to combine knowledgebases of different disciplines like anthropology, medical, mechanical, archaeological sciences etc. to computerize the face reconstruction process based on a large dataset of 3D face and skull models gathered from living persons: cranial data from CT scans and face models from photogrammetric evaluations. The BUTE Dept. of Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics works on the method and technology of the 3D data acquisition for the face models. In this paper we will present the research and results of the photogrammetric network design, the modelling to deal with visibility constraints, and the investigation of the developed basic photogrammetric configuration to specify the result characteristics to be expected using the device built for the photogrammetric face measurements.

Virtual surgery planning is a non-invasive procedure, which uses digital clinical data for diagnostic, procedure selection and treatment planning purposes, including the forecast of potential outcomes. The technique begins with 3D data acquisition, using various methods, which may or may not utilize ionizing radiation, such as 3D stereophotogrammetry, 3D cone-beam CT scans, etc. Regardless of the imaging technique selected, landmark selection, whether it is manual or automated, is the key to transforming clinical data into objects that can be interrogated in virtual space. As a prerequisite, the data require alignment and correspondence such that pre- and post-operative configurations can be compared in real and statistical shape space. In addition, these data permit predictive modeling, using either model-based, data-based or hybrid modeling. These approaches provide perspectives for the development of customized surgical procedures and medical devices with accuracy, precision and intelligence. Therefore, this review briefly summarizes the current state of virtual surgery planning.

Abstract. Videogrammetry is a technique to generate point clouds by using video frame sequences. It is a branch of photogrammetry that offers an attractive capabilities and make it an interesting choice for a 3D data acquisition. However, different camera input and specification will produce different quality of point cloud. Thus, it is the aim of this study to investigate the quality of point cloud that is produced from various camera input and specification. Several devices are using in this study such as Iphone 5s, Iphone 7+, Iphone X, Digital camera of Casio Exilim EX-ZR1000 and Nikon D7000 DSLR. For each device, different camera with different resolution and frame per second (fps) are used for video recording. The videos are processed using EyesCloud3D by eCapture. EyesCloud3D is a platform that receive input such as videos and images to generate point clouds. 3D model is constructed based on generated point clouds. The total number of point clouds produced is analyzed to determine which camera input and specification produce a good 3D model. Besides that, factor of generating number of point clouds is analyzed. Finally, each camera resolution and fps is suggested for certain applications based on generated number of point cloud.
