Specification of corrosion processes in sewerage networks, the predominant role of microbiological processes in them requires the protection of concrete with materials resistant to specific biogenic sulfuric acid aggression. The effective protective materials, in this case, are those that, in addition to acid-proofing materials, have bactericidal properties. Polymer composite materials (PCM) of cold curing based on modified epoxy-resin, resins with dispersed oxides as fillers are widely used in construction. Unique properties and simple technologies make it possible to use them as injection formulations for repair, restoration and restoration of building structures and structures, waterproofing and facing materials, for impregnating, gluing and coating metal, wooden, brick and concrete building structures and parts. In the reconstruction and restoration of sewerage collectors operating under conditions of exposure to liquid biochemically aggressive media with mineral acids and organic substances, particular attention is paid to the permeability of repair materials. Based on the results of the study, PCM compositions were chosen whose estimated lifetime is about 20 years, ensuring reliable protection of the sewage collectors from corrosion.

AbstractMany researchers have carried out experimental and numerical investigations to examine building structures’ response to explosive loads. Studies of bridges subjected to blast loads are limited. Hence, in this study, we present a case study on a cable-stayed bridge, namely, Charles River Cable-Stayed Bridge-Boston, to assess its robustness and resistance against the progressive collapse resulting from localized failure due to blast loads. Three different blast scenarios are considered to interpret the bridge performance to blast loads. To monitor the progressive failure mechanisms of the structural elements due to blast, pre-defined plastic hinges are assigned to the bridge deck. The results conclude that the bridge is too weak to sustain the blast loads near the tower location, and the progressive collapse is inevitable. Hence, to preserve this cable-stayed bridge from local and global failure, structural components should be more reinforced near the tower location. This case study helps the designer better understand the need for blast resistance design of cable-stayed bridges.

Important historic buildings may be subjected to accidental loads during their service life. It is therefore necessary not only to evaluate their safety under traditional loads and seismic action (only in earthquake area), but also to evaluate the structural performance of resisting progressive collapse. For historic buildings, two aspects make them different from the modern buildings: the material properties are usually deteriorated to some extent, and the structural system/constructions may not meet the requirements of current design and construction codes. Considering such aspects, a method consisting of four steps to evaluate the performance of the historic buildings to resist progressive collapse is presented in this paper. Firstly, the building layout should be evaluated whether it can protect the occupants from the possible explosion. Secondly, geometrical information, structural constructions and the material properties are to be investigated in details. Thirdly, by means of tie force method and the alternate path method the performance of the structure is analyzed to resist progressive collapse. The load combinations used in the analysis are derived based on the expected service life of the structure. The failure criteria for the structural elements as well as the damage limits for the structure follow the provisions addressed in American Unified Facilities Criteria “Design of Structure to Resist Progressive Collapse” (UFC 4-023-03). Finally, based on the above information an overall evaluation is made for the probably structural retrofitting and strengthening. This method is illustrated with a case study of a steel frame historic building, namely the Bund 18 building, in Shanghai, China. Some suggestions for retrofitting and strengthening this building are also presented.

The situation in the construction complex of the state and crisis phenomena in it are shown. It is proposed to return to the basic components of system management of the industry, lost due to spontaneous pseudo-market processes. Problems that need to be overcome are systematized, they are the following: attracting investments, increasing effective demand in the domestic market, strengthening the competitiveness of production, the predominance of innovative technologies, increasing the quality of products and facilities, bringing the legal framework to European standards, training of employees and managers. The state of the housing market, the importance of its openness, transparency, systematization and regulation are described. The special importance of the regulatory function of the state in the current situation is pointed out. The importance and role of comprehensive activities for housing construction economic growth is emphasized. The need to create conditions for increasing the volume of products sold under international agreements through investment and interstate projects is noted. The relationship between the results of the construction industry and the effective use of human capital is given, for which each company needs measures to improve work with staff, improve their skills, financial incentives and social security. The expediency of introducing the mechanism of energy service in construction, which is part of the management system with subsystems of planning, organization, regulation, motivation and control, is proved. The role of methods for evaluating the effectiveness of innovative activities of enterprises to ensure quality and effective management of production processes is analyzed. The information on development schemes of the organization at registration of the allowing documentation, financing, designing, market research, selection of participants, accounting, construction, property management is provided. The function of settlements' territories as separate objects at construction of inhabited premises is defined. Award on the need for construction and reconstruction of "sleeping" areas in cities, which requires significant investment, development of building structures, as well as established close relationships with industrial, commercial, cultural, entertainment and other facilities.
