Electrically conducting multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) incorporated bacterial cellulose (BC) nanocomposite (MWCNT/BC) was prepared by briefly sonicating MWCNT-DMF/H2O dispersion immersed with BC, no addition of surfactant was required during the process. The conductivity of MWCNT/BC, as measured by a four-probe instrument, was up to 0.32 S[Formula: see text]cm[Formula: see text]. Tetraamino cobalt (II) phthalocyanine (CoPc) catalyst was decorated onto the surface of pre-oxidized MWCNT/BC with covalent bonding. The resulting BC-based functional nanomaterial, CoPc decorated, MWCNT incorporated BC (CoPc@MWCNT/BC), is able to efficiently decolorize dye wastewater. The catalytic oxidation activity of CoPc was greatly improved with the incorporation of MWCNT.
