Dramatic visible photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4-based nanocomposite due to the synergistic effect of AgBr and ZnO semiconductors

Catalyst precursor was prepared with the Fe-Al hydrotalcite as the support, Ce-doped TiO2 as the active component. Then SO42-/CeO2-TiO2/HTLC photocatalyst was obtained by SO42- -modification with soak method. Catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, SEM-EDS and UV-Vis DRS. With methyl orange as model pollutant, the photocatalytic performance of the catalysts was determined. Experimental results showed that the absorption intensity for visible light of the CeO2-TiO2 particle was stronger than that of TiO2 particle; moreover there was a synergistic effect between SO42- and CeO2-TiO2/HTLC, thus the absorption intensity for visible light of SO42-/CeO2-TiO2/HTLC photocatalyst was enhanced further. The decolorization rate for methyl orange of modified SO42-/15%(CeO2-TiO2)/HTLC photocatalyst reached 93% after irradiation under simulated sunlight for 2 hours.

Heterojunction engineering has shown great potential in the field of photocatalysis to deal with environmental pollutants. The design and synthesis of heterojunction photocatalysts with high efficiency and stability still face great challenges. In this work, a novel CdS quantum dots (QDs) decorated 3D Bi2O2CO3 hierarchical nanoflower heterojunction photocatalyst (Bi2O2CO3/CdS QDs) was synthesized to investigate the photocatalytic Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation performance. CdS QDs were evenly distributed on the surface of the Bi2O2CO3 nanoflower. Bi2O2CO3/CdS QDs showed significantly enhanced photocatalytic RhB degradation performance compared with pristine Bi2O2CO3 and CdS QDs. The enhanced photocatalytic performance was attributed to the synergistic effect of hierarchical structure and heterojunction, which greatly increased the active sites of the reaction and the photogenerated carriers transfer.

The photocatalyst showed efficient enhanced photocatalytic performance, which is about 3.65 and 3.72 times greater than pure WO3 and g-C3N4 respectively.

MoS2–transition metal heterojunctions were adopted as cocatalysts on the earth-abundant g-C3N4 and displayed a synergistic effect on improving the photocatalytic performance.
