The human body is an extremely aggressive environment in terms of corrosion. Titanium and its alloys are one of the most popular biomaterials used for implant applications due to biocompatibility. However, every element introduced into the body is treated as a foreign body. The human body’s immune response may, therefore, lead to implant rejection and the need for reoperation. For this purpose, it seems important to carry out surface modifications by applying coatings and inter alia by texturing to implants. The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of surface treatment on the chosen properties of the pure titanium (Grade II) samples obtained by selective laser melting (SLM) processing. The samples were divided into five groups: Initial state (after polishing), after surface modification by the physical vapour deposition (PVD) method—CrN and TiN coatings were deposited on the surface of the tested material, and after laser texturing. The paper presents the results of the microscopic investigation, chemical and phase compositions, and physicochemical and electrochemical properties of the tested samples. Based on the results obtained it can be concluded that the hybrid surface modification shows significant effects on the properties of the pure titanium. The samples with the textured PVD-deposited TiN coatings were characterized by favorable physicochemical properties and were the highest performing in terms of pitting corrosion resistance.

The article presents the results of selective laser melting of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. It was studied phase composition and microstructure of the initial powder material, the specimens manufactured by Selective Laser Melting and also the specimens after heat treatment. The effect of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of the specimens was shown. It was studied the mechanical behavior of the manufactured specimens before and after heat treatment at room and elevated temperatures as well. After heat treatment tests showed that the specimens have decent mechanical properties both at room and elevated temperatures.

Abstract In this paper presents the results of studying the powder material AISI 321. Selective laser melting (SLM) of the samples was carried out in modes with a change in the radiation power. The subsequent processing of the samples by the method of hot isostatic pressing (HIP) was carried out. The roughness of the surfaces and the microhardness of the samples before and after the HIP were studied.

The results of the analysis of the plasma atomized powder material are shown. An analysis of the microstructure in lightweight constructions made of VT6 alloy by selective laser melting was carried out. The microstructure and mechanical characteristics of the obtained structures were studied before and after heat treatment. Measurement of grain size in the microstructural analysis gave a more complete picture of the state of the structure in different parts of the sample formed as a result of growing by selective laser melting, in a mesh and compact. In the course of the work, the peculiarities of the growth of grains in bars of the mesh construction are revealed depending on their location.

The absorption of laser radiation of powder materials based on copper and nickel is studied. The dependence of the temperature of the powder material on the power of the incident laser radiation is obtained. A comparison of the values obtained by different measurement methods is presented.
