Absorption difference and comparative absorption spectrophotometric studies involving 4f-4f transitions of Nd(III) and different amino acids: DL-valine, DL-alanine, and β-alanine in presence and absence of Ca(II) and Zn(II) in aqueous and different aquated organic solvents have been carried out. Variations in the spectral energy parameters: Slater-Condon (FK) factor, Racah (EK), Lande factor (ξ4f), nephelauxetic ratio (β), bonding (b1/2), percentage covalency (δ) are calculated to explore the mode of interaction of Nd(III) with different amino acids: DL-valine, DL-alanine, and β-alanine. The values of experimentally calculated oscillator strength (P) and computed values of Judd-Ofelt electric dipole intensity parameters, Tλ (λ = 2,4,6), are also determined for different 4f-4f transitions. The variation in the values of P and Tλ parameters explicitly shows the relative sensitivities of the 4f-4f transitions as well as the specific correlation between relative intensities, ligand structures, and nature of Nd(III)-ligand interaction.

This paper presents a case study of a language-impaired child who signaled the distinction between English singular and plural using suprasegmental cues rather than the usual segmental form used within the parent language. Acoustic analyses performed within the first study in the paper revealed that the suprasegmental features used to maintain this distinction included various duration, fundamental frequency, and intensity parameters. Acoustic analyses Were also performed on a set of matched two- and four-item plural forms within a second study. The results of these analyses indicated that the same acoustic parameters were used to distinguish two-item plural forms from four-item plural forms. This case of linguistic creativity is offered as further evidence in support of the model of language acquisition that emphasizes the active role children take in the acquisition process. Additionally, the phonological, morphological, and psycholinguistic factors that may contribute to such rule invention are discussed.

Determining minimum levels of fat and sucrose needed for the sensory acceptance of sponge cake while increasing the nutritional quality was the main objective of this study. Sponge cakes with 0, 25, 50 and 75% sucrose replacement (SR) using a combination of inulin and Rebaudioside A (Reb A) were prepared. Sensory acceptance testing (SAT) was carried out on samples. Following experimental results, four more samples were prepared where fat was replaced sequentially (0, 25, 50 and 75%) in sucrose-replaced sponge cakes using pureed butter beans (Pbb) as a replacer. Fat-replaced samples were investigated using sensory (hedonic and intensity) and physicochemical analysis. Texture liking and overall acceptability (OA) were the only hedonic sensory parameters significantly affected after a 50% SR in sponge cake (p < 0.05). A 25% SR had no significant impact on any hedonic sensory properties and samples were just as accepted as the control sucrose sample. A 30% SR was chosen for further experiments. After a 50% fat replacement (FR), no significant differences were found between 30% sucrose-replaced sponge cake samples in relation to all sensory (hedonic and intensity) parameters investigated. Flavour and aroma intensity attributes such as buttery and sweet and, subsequently, liking and OA of samples were negatively affected after a 75% FR (p < 0.05). Instrumental texture properties (hardness and chewiness (N)) did not discriminate between samples with increasing levels of FR using Pbb. Moisture content increased significantly with FR (p < 0.05). A simultaneous reduction in fat (42%) and sucrose was achieved (28%) in sponge cake samples without negatively affecting OA. Optimised samples contained significantly more dietary fibre (p < 0.05).

Study of mechanical characteristics of structural planes has been significant issue in engineering rock mass stability analysis. The factors that affect the mechanical behavior of structural planes are so complicated that it is quite essential to take an efficient method to quantificationally analyze these factors. Based on the basic principals of analytic hierarchy process (AHP), a structural plane classification method-CSPC method is proposed. It can conduct weight distribution in terms of the complicated factors, assess the structural planes comprehensively and also forecast the planes intensity parameters semiquantitatively. The classification and forecast parameters of structural planes appropriately fit the cases in engineering. Furthermore, the method is easy to master for the engineers and the application can be of great prospect.

Multicomposition of Er3+-Yb3+codoped tellurite oxide, TeO2-ZnO-PbO-TiO2-Na2O glass has been investigated. Detailed spectroscopic study of the Judd-Ofelt analysis has been performed from the measured absorption spectrum in order to obtain the intensity parameters Ωt(t=2, 4, 6). The calculated Ωtvalues were then utilized in the determination of transition probabilities, radiative lifetimes and branching ratios of the Er3+transitions between theJ(upper)-J(lower) manifolds. Both visible upconversion and near-infrared spectra were characterized under the 980 nm laser diode excitation at room temperature.

The aim of the research is to study the influence of inhomogeneity in a control parameter of all partial elements in a ring of nonlocally coupled chaotic maps on the possibility of observing chimera states in the system and to compare the changes in regions of chimera realization using different methods of introducing the inhomogeneity. Methods. In this paper, snapshots of the system dynamics are constructed for various values of the parameters, as well as spatial distributions of cross-correlation coefficient values, which enable us to determine the regime observed in the system for these parameters. To improve the accuracy of the obtained results, the numerical studies are carried out for fifty different realizations of initial conditions of the ring elements. Results. It is shown that a fixed inhomogeneous distribution of the control parameters with increasing noise intensity leads to an increase in the range of the coupling strength where chimera states are observed. With this, the boundary lying in the region of strong coupling changes more significantly as compared with the case of weak coupling strength. The opposite effect is provided when the control parameters are permanently affected by noise. In this case increasing the noise intensity leads to a decrease in the interval of existence of chimera states. Additionally, the nature of the random variable distribution (normal or uniform one) does not strongly influence the observed changes in the ring dynamics. The regions of existence of chimera states are constructed in the plane of «coupling strength – noise intensity» parameters. Conclusion. We have studied how the region of existence of chimeras changes when the coupling strength between the ring elements is varied and when different characteristics of the inhomogeneous distribution of the control parameters are used. It has been shown that in order to increase the region of observing chimera states, the control parameters of the elements must be distributed inhomogeneously over the entire ensemble. To reduce this region, a constant noise effect on the control parameters should be used.
