The evolution of learning technology standards has resulted in a degree of interoperability across systems that enable the interchange of learning contents and activities. Nonetheless, learning resource metadata does not provide formal computational semantics, which hampers the possibilities to develop technology that automates tasks like learning object selection and negotiation. In this paper, the provision of computational semantics to metadata is addressed from the perspective of the concept of Semantic Web service. An architecture based on the specifications of the WSMO project is described, including the definition of an ontology for learning object metadata, and issues of mediation, all under the perspective of the learning object repository as the central entity in learning object reuse scenarios. The resulting framework serves as a foundation for advanced implementations that consider formal metadata semantics as a mechanism for the automation of tasks related to the interchange of learning objects.

In the process of global economy development and competition, how to strengthen the cooperation of enterprises in the supply chain environment plays a very important role to the success of enterprises. As well known, the IT technology is one of the quite essential factors to provide quicker and more accurate information for the enterprises, and therefore enhance the enterprises’ operation efficiency. In order to adapt to the supply chain (SC) environment and support for other enterprises’ common development in SC, we have to develop more powerful and unified IT technology. What is elaborated in this paper is the framework of the information cooperation system which is SC oriented. It does not deny or overthrow the legacy applications of enterprises, but to put forward a framework based on the old applications in SC. It also unifies the Web Service and references the principles of VPN. We call it the framework of Virtual Private Supply Chain Management (VPSCM). The principle, the model and the use of VPSCM as well as some other related issues are going to be explained in this paper.

Nowadays a substantial share of the production processes of the world's apparel business is taking place in developing countries. In the apparel business, supply chain coordination needs resource and information sharing between business partners. Semantic web service computing (SWSC) provides numerous opportunities and value-added service capabilities that global apparel business requires to exchange information between distributed business partners. The ability to dynamically discover and invoke a web service is an important aspect of semantic web service-based architectures. This chapter describes the main features of an ontology-based web service framework, known as CSIA (collaborative service integration architecture) for integrating distributed business information systems in a global supply chain. The CSIA framework uses a hybrid knowledge-based system, which consists of structural case-based reasoning (S-CBR), rule-based reasoning (RBR), and an ontology concept similarity assessment algorithm.

In order to improve applied-information technology in supply chain collaborative system, it proposes a method of supply chain knowledge collaboration based on semantic Web service. Specific research process is as follows. Firstly, the Web knowledge service ontology based on OWL-S supply chain is introduced, and then analyzed the semantic Web service in the supply chain, three different type models of supply chain knowledge collaboration are also proposed from the standpoint of knowledge system construction, finally, the system structure of supply chain knowledge collaboration based on ontology is designed. The results show that using the model paper mentioned can improve the overall system performance of applied-information technology efficiently.

Agile supply chain management is becoming an important subject in steel business management and technological innovation in China. Through researching on agile supply chain management in Iron and steel enterprises, advices and schemes are proposed which will accelerate the development of Chinese steel industry, enhance its market responsiveness and competitiveness, and help it obtains cost advantage. In this work, we apply Service-Oriented Architecture and Web Service technology into the agile supply chain management system in steel industry, and build agile supply chain information sharing platform which is based on Web Service, so the system will achieve data sharing and operation sharing, so as to achieve applications that is cross-platform, cross-system and high multiplexing distributed.
