The field experiments were conducted in Agronomy Department Farm, College of Agriculture, Dapoli. Dist. Ratnagiri during Kharif seasons to study the “Nutrient status of soil after the harvest of pigeonpea as influenced by Intigrated nutrient Management”. Results showed that available N and P content of soil after harvest of pigeonpea were improved due to all the nutrient management treatments over their respective initial values. Application of 75 % RDF + Two foliar sprays of nutrients (Potassium nitrate 1% + DAP 1% + Boron 500 ppm at flowering and 20 days after first spray) + Biofertilizers (Rhizobium +PSB) and RDF + Biofertilizers (Rhizobium + PSB) remained at par and both the treatments significantly improved the available N and P status of soil after harvest of pigeonpea crop over rest of the nutrient management treatments. the values were rather higher compared to their initial levels indicating the increased production of pigeonpea without reduction in soil fertility.

Pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] is the rich sources of dietary protein, carbohydrate & certain minerals but its poor yield needs to formulate a nutrient management practices for higher productivity in upland alfisols of Tripura and to combat it, an experiment was conducted during three consecutive kharif seasons at College of Agriculture, Lembucherra, Tripura comprising of two levels of Lime (150 and 200 kg ha-1) in main plot and two levels of molybdenum seed treatment (0 and 4g kg-1 of seed) in sub plot and 4 levels of recommended doses, viz., 0% of RDF ha-1, 50% of RDF ha-1, 75% of RDF ha-1 and 100% of RDF ha-1 (Recommended dose @ 20:60:40 of NPK). It was revealed that by the use of 100% RDF ha-1 with 150 kg ha-1 lime and 4g kg-1 of molybdenum seed treatment leads to higher yield and return per rupee respectively. But by the use of 100% RDF ha-1 with 200 kg ha-1 lime and 4g kg-1 of molybdenum seed treatment, return per rupee was recorded at 2.98. The investigation reflects that by the use of 75% RDF ha-1 return per rupee (3.78) was less compared to 100% RDF ha-1 but significant with saving the cost of 25% RDF ha-1 and soil health from the excessive use of fertilizer for sustaining the agricultural growth.SAARC J. A field experimental was conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khodawandpur as well as Gadhpura and Barauni blocks of Begusarai district to study the effect of integrated nutrient management for sustaining the productivity of pigeon pea [Canjanus cajan (L) mill sp.] under rainfed conditions. Growth and yield attributing characters viz., plant height, yield induced such as days to 50% flowering , branches/plant, leaf area, pods/plant, pod length, number of grains/pod, 100 seed weight, grain and stalk yield and benefit-cost ratio were significantly higher at recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) than organic manure and bio fertilizer. Application of RDF with vermi compost @ 2 tones/ha, Farm Yard Manure (FYM) @ 5.0 tones/ha and bio-fertilizer singly and combined enhanced the yield attributes grain yield parameters. Seed inoculation with Rhizobium + phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) alone or combined inoculation were found effective and significantly enhanced the yield attributing and grain and stalk yield of pigeon pea.

The Sinorhizobium fredii HH103 rkp-1 region, which is involved in capsular polysaccharides (KPS) production, was isolated and sequenced. The organization of the S. fredii genes identified, rkpUAGHIJ and kpsF3, was identical to that described for S. meliloti 1021 but different from that of S. meliloti AK631. The long rkpA gene (7.5 kb) of S. fredii HH103 and S. meliloti 1021 appears as a fusion of six clustered AK631 genes, rkpABCDEF. S. fredii HH103-Rifr mutants affected in rkpH or rkpG were constructed. An exoA mutant unable to produce exopolysaccharide (EPS) and a double mutant exoA rkpH also were obtained. Glycine max (soybean) and Cajanus cajan (pigeon pea) plants inoculated with the rkpH, rkpG, and rkpH exoA derivatives of S. fredii HH103 showed reduced nodulation and severe symptoms of nitrogen starvation. The symbiotic capacity of the exoA mutant was not significantly altered. All these results indicate that KPS, but not EPS, is of crucial importance for the symbiotic capacity of S. fredii HH103-Rifr. S. meliloti strains that produce only EPS or KPS are still effective with alfalfa. In S. fredii HH103, however, EPS and KPS are not equivalent, because mutants in rkp genes are symbiotically impaired regardless of whether or not EPS is produced.

A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2011 on experimental farm of the College of Post Graduate Studies (CAU–Imphal), Umiam (Meghalaya) to evaluate the effect of integration of green manuring, FYM and fertilizers as integrated nutrient management (INM) practices on growth and developmental behaviour of quality protein maize cultivar QPM 1. The data revealed that comparatively higher amount of primary nutrients were added in green manured maize plots in comparison to non green manured treatments. Green manuring also left a positive response on plant height, CGR, RGR leaf area, and dry matter accumulation in plants though the difference between green manured and non-green manured treatments was at par. Treatments 75 % RDF + 5 t FYM ha-1, 50 % RDF + 7.5 t FYM ha-1, 100 % RDF ha-1 and 75 % RDF + 2.5 t FYM ha-1 recorded significantly higher values of all the above said growth parameters over 50 % RDF + 5 t FYM ha-1 and control treatments. At all stages of observations, the maximum dry matter was associated with RDF (recommended doses of fertilizers) which was at par with 75 % RDF + 5 t FYM ha-1, but significantly higher over the plant dry weight recorded from all remaining treatments. A Significant difference in CGR at 30 – 60 and 60 – 90 DAS stage and in RGR at 90 DAS - harvest stage was observed due to various combinations of recommended dose of fertilizer with different doses of FYM. Number of days taken to attain the stages of 50% tasselling, silking and maturity did not differ significantly due to green manuring. However, treatment 75 % RDF + 5 t FYM ha-1 took significantly lesser number of days for these stages than other treatment combinations. The superiority of the treatment 75 % RDF + 5 t FYM ha-1 indicated a possibility of substituting 25% of RDF with 5 t FYM ha-1 without any loss in dry matter accumulation in plants of the quality protein hybrid maize in mid-hill ecosystems of Meghalaya.
