Background: The association between obesity and a reduction in life expectancy is well established, and cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of mortality. Bariatric surgery has long been established as the most effective and durable intervention for obesity, and is the only intervention for obesity that consistently improves multiple comorbidities, reduces cardiovascular disease and long-term mortality. The purpose of this review article is to describe the impact of metabolic/bariatric surgery on type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiometabolic parameters, including cardiovascular mortality. Methods: A systematic literature search of Pubmed, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Central Register was performed. We included randomized controlled trials, metanalysis, case-control trials, and cohort studies that contain data on reductions in cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular mortality in subjects who underwent metabolic/bariatric surgery from January 1, 2005, to June 1, 2020. Conclusion: There is sufficient evidence of randomized controlled trials that metabolic/bariatric surgery is associated with a significant improvement of all cardiovascular risk factors. Although studies are showing a reduction of macrovascular events and cardiovascular mortality, these findings come from observational studies and should be confirmed in randomized clinical trials.

INTRODUCTION: Despite of benefits of bariatric surgery for obesity treatment, the procedure may be related to some complications. AIM: Analyze studies to address the relation between nephrolithiasis and bariatric surgery. METHODS: Ten papers about this theme were selected from 2005-2013 in Pubmed, describing the relation of nephrolithiasis or their risk factors with several types of bariatric surgery. RESULTS: Retrospective studies with minimal follow-up of three years demonstrated 7,65% in surgery patients and 4,63% non-surgery with nephrolithiasis (p<0,05). Prospective studies (8 of 10) revealed large percentage of calculi appearing and significant increase in oxaluria. CONCLUSION: There is correlation between obesity surgery and nephrolithiasis.

With the advancement and industrialization of our society, the prevalence of metabolic disease is also increasing. Among the risk factors for metabolic syndrome and many other non-communicable diseases, obesity is the single most important one. Although life style and pharmacological therapies are the part of initial intervention, however once the overt obesity related complication appears, bariatric surgery becomes the only curative intervention. Various modalities surgeries have come into place in recent times. However preparing a patient physically and mentally needs a thorough pre- operative preparation. Here in this review, we are exploring the approach to patient with morbid obesity and work up for bariatric surgery from a physician’s point of view.
