Abstract Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) is gaining popularity as an extraction technique. This report details the use of SFE for the extraction of extender oil, organic acid and antioxidant from styrene—butadiene rubber ( SBR ) Extraction parameters such as density, temperature, flowrate, and extraction time were investigated. The effect of sample size and modifier was also studied. Recovery and reproducibility data was generated for various SBR types, including oil-extended and carbon black filled polymers. Complete extraction was achieved in 30 minutes with 100 mg of sample using carbon dioxide. Sample masses of up to 1 gram were successfully extracted in the same time with the addition of a modifier.
