Unlighted highway signs, which use newly developed retroreflective materials, were installed along the major expressway in an urban area by the local department of transportation. Photometric measurements of the signs were used to assess their legibility applying the relative visual performance model, in comparison to lighted signs, con‐ forming to recommended illumination practices. The calculated visibility of the measured unlighted signs was similar to that of the signs equipped with exterior sign illumination. The practical significance and limitations of the relative visual performance approach are discussed.

A Highway Prediction Model (HPM) using the ray acoustics modeling approach is developed in this research. The HPM model can be used to quantitatively predict the environmental noise levels on highways of different pavements. Comparison between the measured noise levels using the SPB method and predicted noise levels with the model developed shows that the prediction model established is reliable for estimating highway noise in Canada.

In South Korea, the need for residential modular buildings has highlighted, due to the increase in demand for small housing and the high land price in urban area. Thus, the cruse housing system (CHS) was developed to build high-rise residential buildings. The object of this study is to analyze the characteristics and fabrication processes of CHS residential buildings when the in-fill construction method is adopted. The result of this study showed that there is the potential to utilize the fabrication processes of CHS in-fill construction system to build high-rise modular buildings.
