The environmental deterioration of the subway station and the safety of the personnel evacuation under platform train fire are researched. The critical fire danger condition is proposed and the time calculation method of evacuation is determined. A platform train fire in a subway station is simulated by the Fire Dynamics Simulator software. Then the available egress time can be got by analyzing the fire temperature and smoke concentration change with time. At the same time, the required egress time is studied through theoretical analysis and computer simulation by software Building Exodus. The results showed that smoke exhaust rate is very important to the smoke control under platform train fire. And the stair evacuation ability is the key to the whole evacuation.

Fire prevention system of subway station plays an important role in ensuring passenger safety. The Shenyang Youth Street subway station fire prevention system safety was studied, applying performance-based fire protection design analysis method, using of FDS simulation software on the station fire prevention safety system for the calculation and analysis. Three working conditions were set when subway fire happens. Fire smoke flow characteristics and the distribution of temperature, CO concentration and visibility were analyzed and compared. The results show that the automatic sprinkler system and smoke control system have great effect on the preventing spread of fire. In the automatic sprinkler system and smoke control system conditions, fire hazards have not reached the standards of passengers tolerance.

There are plenty of pipes to be arranged in subway station platform. Optimizing the air-conditioning system ducts is especially important because of its large size. Due to the location of stairs and the size of ducts, the platform exhaust ducts of a Shanghai subway station were laid out within the range from the stair to the end of the platform which probably can’t exhaust smoke effectively in fire. In reconstruction plan, air supply ducts and discharge ducts are connected and valves are added. Air supply pipe can be changed into discharge duct by controlling the valves. The smoke extraction performances of the original plan and the reconstruction plan are analyzed with the CFD numerical simulation. The results show that the reconstruction plan can make up the shortcoming of the original plan and contribute to the layout of pipes in new platform.
