Colour is a significant aspect of Cognitive Mind Maps which are visual representations of a subject to enhance recall. Entire lessons form visual images with key words. Scientific studies indicate a basis for relating colour and its effects to memory and recall. Colour plays a pivotal role in successful encoding, storage and retrieval of information.  Extensively used in the corporate world, research studies involving Mind Maps using colours, in U.K. and Australian schools claim successful results. There is little documented/published evidence of the same at high school levels in India. Sound educational systems but changed lifestyles have joint families-now nuclear, with high school ‘latch key’ children succumbing to dangerous distractions like TVs and computerized gadgets. School children not supervised closely may not perform to their intrinsic potential. Dependence on guides/question banks cause students to memorize answers without understanding lesson concepts. Research on Mind Maps with colour, as a teaching/self study aid, will find potential for application in NCERT/SCERT textbooks.

Cognitive decline and dementia are a growing problem as the population ages. Effective therapies to prevent and treat these problems are limited. Neuro-inflammation has been suggested as a cause of dementia [1]. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist used to treat seasonal allergies and asthma. It acts as a cysteinyl leukotriene (CysLT1) receptor antagonist blocking the action of leukotrienes and decreasing inflammation [2]. Animal studies have shown that administering Montelukast improves memory function [3]. This case series of patients in a private Internal Medicine practice between 2013-2014 used Montelukast in patients with various levels of memory impairment and dementia. Patients were given Montelukast 80 mg daily in 4 divided doses every 2-3 hours. Memory impaired patients had subjective improvement in the memory and recall. Patients with dementia were noted by family members to be less agitated, but had no memory improvement at the doses used. Montelukast may be useful to treat memory impairment and dementia. Long term use might act as a prophylactic to prevent dementia.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic disease with cardiac involvement occurring in 20-50% of cases. Cardiogenic stroke caused by cardiac sarcoidosis, especially PCA infarction, is a rare clinical presentation that necessitates timely diagnosis and may warrant treatment prophylaxis against CVA. In this case report, we describe a 54-year-old Caucasian male presenting with left PCA stroke in the setting of cardiac and pulmonary sarcoidosis, and hypertension. His presenting symptoms included right partial hemianopia, difficulty with naming, memory, and recall, and alexia without agraphia. Cardiogenic stroke is an uncommon manifestation of cardiac sarcoidosis, and given the disabling nature of these sequelae, the importance of early diagnosis and prevention with anticoagulation is crucial to prevent morbidity and mortality.
