A biquaternionic version of the Dirac Equation is introduced, with a procedure for converting four-component spinors to elements of the Pauli algebra. In this version, mass appears as a coefficient between the 4-gradient of a spinor and its image under an outer automorphism of the Pauli algebra. The charge conjugation operator takes a particulary simple form in this formulation and switches the sign of the mass coefficient, so that for a solution invariant under charge conjugation the mass has to equal zero. The multiple of the charge conjugation operator by the imaginary unit turns out to be a complex Lorentz transformation. It commutes with the outer automorphism, while the charge conjugation operator itself anticommutes with it, providing a second more algebraic proof of the main theorem. Considering the Majorana equation, it is shown that non-zero mass of its solution is imaginary.

Abstract We apply Hilbert series techniques to the enumeration of operators in the mesonic QCD chiral Lagrangian. Existing Hilbert series technologies for non-linear realizations are extended to incorporate the external fields. The action of charge conjugation is addressed by folding the $$ \mathfrak{su}(n) $$ su n Dynkin diagrams, which we detail in an appendix that can be read separately as it has potential broader applications. New results include the enumeration of anomalous operators appearing in the chiral Lagrangian at order p8, as well as enumeration of CP-even, CP-odd, C-odd, and P-odd terms beginning from order p6. The method is extendable to very high orders, and we present results up to order p16.(The title sequence is the number of independent C-even and P-even operators in the mesonic QCD chiral Lagrangian with three light flavors of quarks, at chiral dimensions p2, p4, p6, …)

We have developed a quantum field theory of spinors based on the algebra of canonical anticommutation relations (CAR algebra) of Grassmann densities in the momentum space. We have proven the existence of two spinor vacua. Operators C and T transform the normal vacuum into an alternative one, which leads to the breaking of the C and T symmetries. The CPT is the real structure operator; it preserves the normal vacuum. We have proven that, in the theory of the Dirac Sea, the formula for the charge conjugation operator must contain an additional generalized Dirac conjugation operator.

We construct explicitly the open descendants of some exceptional automorphism invariants of U (2N) orbifolds. We focus on the case N = p1 × p2, p1 and p2 prime, and on the automorphisms of the diagonal and charge conjugation invariants that exist for these values of N. These correspond to orbifolds of the circle with radius R2 = 2p1/p2. For each automorphism invariant we find two consistent Klein bottles, and for each Klein bottle we find a complete (and probably unique) set of boundary states. The two Klein bottles are in each case related to each other by simple currents, but surprisingly for the automorphism of the charge conjugation invariant neither of the Klein bottle choices is the canonical (symmetric) one.
