OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: The goal of this study is to assess how quality of life scores change in menopausal women before and after implementation of this aid. In addition, we are also interested in 2 process evaluation objectives: (1) determine if MyChart, the patient portal, is an effective way for this patient population to provide insight their quality of life to their providers and (2) to evaluate providers use of and reactions to the decision support tool. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: This project is a collaboration between University of Rochester Medical Center and S.U.N.Y. Upstate Medical University. Participants were recruited through Upstate’s Family Medicine and OB/GYN practices via a MyChart invitation sent by the practices. Participating patients will be asked to complete a survey, through MyChart, every 3 months for 18 months. Participating health providers will be trained to use the decision support tool and participate in 3 interviews with the researchers to gain insight into the usefulness and effectiveness of the tool. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Of the 465 eligible women, 117 women responded to our MyChart invitation to join our study. Of these, 105 agreed to participate and 98 met eligibility criteria. Only half of the women currently enrolled in our study had spoken to a provider about menopause related symptoms (56.1%) prior to study enrollment. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPACT: The goal of this study is to improve menopause related symptoms in women, thus increasing their quality of life, but it will also provide important process evaluation for using EPIC and MyChart for future research studies.

General Aviation flight operations have been negatively affected by the slow decreasing weather related accident rate for the last 20 years. Upon further investigation, research suggests, that poor preflight planning and a lack of aviation weather experience and knowledge may be contributing factors to the stagnant weather related accident rate. Our team developed a Preflight Weather Decision Support Tool (PWDST) to help novice pilots access, interpret, and apply weather information. We used a user-centered design process which involved an initial task analysis, low-fidelity prototyping, low-fidelity usability testing, user interviews and expert review. This study assessed and compared the perceived usability, difficulty, and the system assistance satisfaction of the PWDST. Participants (n=9) completed a usability study and a series of surveys during, as well as, after the completion of the preflight planning scenario. A series of Mann-Whitney U Tests were conducted to compare the difference between Private Pilot and Certified Flight Instructors (CFI) perceived usability, difficulty, and system assistance satisfaction ratings. Results indicated, there were no significant differences between group ratings. Overall, both groups reported above average usability, system assistance and low difficulty rating for the PWDST. Future research and possible implications are discussed.

Quantitative amino acid profiles are traditionally reported as a list of individual concentrations and reference intervals. By the use of selected examples it is shown that alternative methods of presenting and assessing these results can enhance both the quantity and quality of information. A candidate decision support tool is offered as an aid to the interpretation of amino acid profiles.

ContextImpaired quality of life (QoL) is common in patients after long-term remission of acromegaly. The acromegaly QoL (AcroQoL) is a disease-specific QoL questionnaire for patients diagnosed with acromegaly. The summed total score is the most frequently used scoring method of the AcroQoL. However, the total score does not capture all of the aspects of QoL that are outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO).ObjectiveThe aim of the present study was to use novel and sophisticated confirmatory methods to identify the optimal number of subscales for the AcroQoL.Design and patientsPatients in remission from acromegaly were recruited from the Leiden University Medical Center and were asked to complete the AcroQoL (Dutch version) questionnaire (n=72).ResultsThe three-subscale version of the AcroQoL consisted of subscales reflecting Physical Complaints, Appearance Issues, and Personal Relations Issues related to QoL. Model fit indices (i.e., comparative fit index and root mean square error of approximation) indicated that the three-subscale version represented the data better than the total score and two-subscale models did. A χ2 difference test indicated that the three-subscale model was a significantly better fit than the total score and two-subscale models were (P<0.05).ConclusionModel fit and comparison statistics indicate that the three-subscale model is a better scoring method than the total score and two-subscale versions of the AcroQoL are. The three-subscale version also better reflected the WHO's recommendation of using a multidimensional measure of QoL than the total score and two-subscale methods did. Therefore, it is recommended that values from the three-subscales of the AcroQoL be reported in future research.

In the debate between marginal decision-making and full absorbance that has been going on since the nineteenth century, activity-based costing/management (ABC/M) appeared as a promising decision support tool which answers the criticism leveled against traditional cost accounting. This paper describes the strengths and weaknesses of ABC/M from a global value creation perspective, in an effort to explain why it failed to live up to its promise and why not too many companies retained it beyond a short pilot period. The paper suggests the global decision-making methodology (GDM), as an effective alternative to costing methods, which improves the quality of decisions and enhances organization value. The paper illustrates its implementation by presenting a case study of a large international financial services organization that abandoned the ABC/M system it had been using for seven years in favor of GDM. The ABC/M system was transformed to a throughput focused “light ABC” system that supports GDM. The article describes the circumstances that led the organization to adopt GDM, and provides general guidelines for its implementation.
