Realistic inhomogeneous models of Jupiter's lower atmosphere are used to interpret recent observations of the (3–0) and (4–0) H2 quadrupole lines at different portions of the visible disc of the planet. The time variations of these observations are analysed in terms of changes in the cloud structure.

AbstractExtended spectroscopic observations of the T Tauri star DI Cep with a time resolution of 10 to 15 minutes have been carried out. On 2 of 6 observing nights the star showed significant variations of the strengths of its emission lines on time scales down to the time resolution of the observations. The most drastic event is shown in Figure 1. The equivalent width of the Hα line increased by a factor of 7 within two hours. Even faster variations, but of smaller amplitude, were observed in the strengths of the Hβ and Till 82 (λ 4572 Å) lines on another night. Obviously strong short time variations are not always present in DI Cep, as in 4 nights no significant variations could be detected.

There are certain visual double stars which, when close to a node of their relative orbit, should have enough radial velocity difference (10-20 km/s) that the spectra of the two component stars will appear resolved on high-dispersion spectrograms (5 Å/mm or less) obtainable by use of modern coudé and solar spectrographs on bright stars. Both star images are then recorded simultaneously on the spectrograph slit, so that two stellar components will appear on each spectrogram.

Abstract.Recent photometric and spectroscopic observations of the dwarf nova system Z Cha are discussed. Methods for constraining the system parameters are applied and the disc emissivity is deduced as a function of radius. Indications are found that the disc shrinks in size with increasing time after outburst.

ABSTRACTSaturn's broad E ring, the narrow G ring and the structured and apparently time variable F ring(s), contain many micron and sub-micron sized particles, which make up the “visible” component. These rings (or ring systems) are in direct contact with magnetospheric plasma. Fluctuations in the plasma density and/or mean energy, due to magnetospheric and solar wind processes, may induce stochastic charge variations on the dust particles, which in turn lead to an orbit perturbation and spatial diffusion. It is suggested that the extent of the E ring and the braided, kinky structure of certain portions of the F rings as well as possible time variations are a result of plasma induced electromagnetic perturbations and drag forces. The G ring, in this scenario, requires some form of shepherding and should be akin to the F ring in structure. Sputtering of micron-sized dust particles in the E ring by magnetospheric ions yields lifetimes of 102to 104years. This effect as well as the plasma induced transport processes require an active source for the E ring, probably Enceladus.

Coconut frond ash is one of the wastes from coconut trees which has not been maximally utilized. Coconut frond ash contains MgCl2 and KCl so that it can be used as a salt substitute in the process of preserving fish. In this study coconut frond ash was used as a basic ingredient for making dried mackerel with a long time of drying to storage. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of drying time on mackerel storage. The research design used was a Randomized Block Design (RCBD) with 2 factors studied. The first factor is the drying time consists of 3 levels, namely P1 = 3 days, P2 = 4 days, P3 = 5 days. The second factor is storage which consists of 3 levels, namely S1 = 30 days, S2 = 60 days, S3 = 90 days. Each treatment was repeated 2 times to obtain 18 experimental units to observed hedonic tests. From the results of the study it can be stated that the treatment has a very significant effect (P≥0.01) on the hedonic test which includes (color, aroma, taste and texture).
