Carlos Fuentes, Mexico s former ambassador to France and famed novelist, short story writer, and essayist, spent the 197980 academic year teaching at Princeton. While Fuentes was visiting the University of Notre Dame at the invitation of the Spanish Department, Jose Anadbn had the opportunity to ask him several ques tions, as did some of the students.

This research was aimed to analyze a brainstorming strategy on teaching writing, especially in writing a short story for the second-semester students of the English Department in (STKIP) PGRI Tulungagung in the academic year 2017/2018. This research was conducted using qualitative methodology. The researcher observed and analyzed the writing class where the lecturer was applying a brainstorming strategy. Qualitative data had been collected from observation of the teaching-learning process, interview with the lecturer and the students, and also questionnaire given to twenty students in that class. The data was in the form of observation, interview transcripts, and the results of the questionnaire. In this research, the researcher involved twenty participants to fill the questionnaire. There were six students from those twenty students and the lecturer who were involved in the process of interview. The result of the research showed that implementing a brainstorming strategy in writing class could improve student's skills in writing, especially writing a short story. The brainstorming strategy helped students to generate their ideas and express the ideas into a systematic paragraph. The students also felt that this strategy could improve their writing. When the lecturer applied a brainstorming strategy, the students could do their writing assignments better and also got good results. Thus, the researcher suggested that the lecturer and the students to apply a brainstorming strategy in ordered that the students’ writing skills could be improved.

Autonomous second language learning (SLL) is a topic of focus in every educational setting and almost universally supported by institutions and scholars in the whole world. One aspect of autonomous learning is peer evaluation (Harmer, 2001; Benson, 2001; Cottrall, 1999; Everhard&Murphy) Seeking to make students more autonomous leaners and take more responsibility for their learning, as well as assess the effect of peer assessment, on language acquisition, peer assessment has been introduced to student of the final semester of their studies. This paper reports initial results from a study into the effectiveness of peer assessment in an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classroom instruction, in a methodology course, conducted in the second semester of the academic year 2017/2018, at the Department of English Language and Literature, at the University of Tetovo, Macedonia. Applying frequency statistics, Fraenkel&Wallen, (2003), the study has analyzed peer assessment; in contrast to teacher assessment of student presentations. Content analysis (Leedy & Ormord, 2005) to identify themes biases and meaning, the study investigated the validity and reliability of peer assessment. Convenience sampling among students enrolled in the seventh semester identified a non-random sample of 20 students representing 41% of the possible cohort. The findings of the study revealed that students were not prepared to assess each other and rather acted on their personal feelings towards their peers. In conclusion, it is argued that research designs involving an extended period of time and with a larger sample will be needed to confirm these results.

Linda Hogan Linda Hogan (1947), a successful poet, short story writer, novelist, playwright, and essayist whose tribal affiliation is Chickasaw, spent most of her childhood in Oklahoma and Colorado. She taught at the University of Minnesota, and has been an associate professor in the English Dept. at the University of Colorado in Boulder (where she obtained her MA in 1978), since 1989. She has served on the National Endowment for the Arts poetry panel for two years and has been involved in wildlife rehabilitation as a volunteer. The main focus and movement of Linda's work concerns the traditional indigenous view of and relationship to the land, animals and plants. She has won numerous awards, such as the 2002 Wordcraft Circle Writer of the Year (Creative Prose: Memoir), the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Native Writers' Circle of the Americas (1998), the prestigious Lannan Award, which may not be applied for, for outstanding achievement in poetry (1994), the Oklahoma Book Award for fiction in 1991, and the American Book Award (1986). She was one of three finalists for the Pulitzer in 1990.

In 1933, a twenty-five-year-old writer named Richard Sullivan articulated for himself the qualities a novel should have. In a “Record of Work Begun and Ideas for Stories,” 1932-1933, he wrote:Let all be adoration. 9-14-33a novel must be—?American—constantly; of course, naturally.Scope—heights to depths; and length also: a lifeReligious—naturally; how else?Bitter—like life; intermittently.When he wrote these words, Sullivan had not yet published a novel; the publication of his first short story in a national magazine was still three years away. He eventually published six of his novels and dozens of short stories while teaching English at the University of Notre Dame from 1936 to 1974. Few people have heard of him or his work, and, at first glance, his life looks commonplace, even prosaic—he never lived farther than one hundred miles from his birthplace and seldom traveled; he taught at the same place, largely the same courses, for thirty-eight years; he wrote and published for almost forty years, coming tantalizingly close to major success, which nonetheless always eluded him.

Novelist and short story writer Jayne Anne Phillips was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia. English novelist and short story writer, Toby Litt is the author of the novels Beatniks: An English Road Movie (1997), Corpsing (2000), Deadkidsongs (2001), Finding Myself (2003), Ghost Story (2004), Hospital (2007), I Play the Drums in a Band Called Okay (2008), Journey into Space (2009), and King Death (2010). He is also known for his collections of short stories Adventures in Capitalism (1996) and Exhibitionism (2002). Toby Litt was nominated by Granta magazine as one of the 20 “Best of Young British Novelists” in 2003. He is an authorised voice among young writers deconstructing contemporary consumer society. A short-story writer, novelist, poet and journalist, Bosman was born in Kuils River near Cape Town, but spent most of his life in the Transvaal, and it is the Transvaal milieu that features in almost all of his writings. He became known in the 1940s for his ‘Oom Schalk Lourens’ stories, and his use of this simple-seeming but wily narrator has ensured his place in South African literature as one of the country’s most enduring and best-loved storywriters. Schalk Lourens features in the short-story collections Mafeking Road (1947) and Unto Dust (1963), while Bosman’s prison memoir, Cold Stone Jug (1949), set the trend for this important genre in South Africa. Bosman was educated at Jeppe Boys’ High School, the University of the Witwatersrand and Normal College, where he qualified as a teacher. In January 1926 he received a posting to the Groot Marico in the remote Western Transvaal, as it was known then. Despite its short duration, this stay later inspired almost all of his 150 short stories. In July 1926, on vacation at the family home in Johannesburg, he became embroiled in a family quarrel and shot and killed his step-brother David Russell. He was tried and sentenced to death—a sentence that was later commuted to imprisonment for ten years with hard labour. He eventually served four years of this sentence and was released on parole in August 1930.
