For many questions, both in Mathematics and in Physics, the most important representations of a Lie algebra a are those which are unitarizable and highest weight (such representations are automatically irreducible). The classification of such representations when a is a finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra was completed only recently (see [3] for details and further references) and the corresponding question when a is an affine algebra was investigated by Jakobsen and Kac [5]. Theorem 3·1 of that paper contains a list of unitarizable highest weight representations which is claimed to be exhaustive. However, we shall show that this list is incomplete by constructing a further family of such representations. In fact, the classification problem in the affine case must be considered to be still open.

AbstractLet be a finite dimensional simple Lie algebra over the complex numbers C. Fernando reduced the classification of infinite dimensional simple -modules with a finite dimensional weight space to determining the simple torsion free -modules for of type A or C. Thesemodules were determined by Mathieu and using his work we provide a more elementary construction realizing each one as a submodule of an easily constructed tensor product module.

Abstract All results concern characteristic 2. We describe two procedures; each of which to every simple Lie algebra assigns a simple Lie superalgebra. We prove that every simple finite-dimensional Lie superalgebra is obtained as the result of one of these procedures. For Lie algebras, in addition to the known “classical” restrictedness, we introduce a (2,4)-structure on the two non-alternating series: orthogonal and Hamiltonian vector fields. For Lie superalgebras, the classical restrictedness of Lie algebras has two analogs: a $2|4$-structure, which is a direct analog of the classical restrictedness, and a novel $2|2$-structure—one more analog, a $(2,4)|4$-structure on Lie superalgebras is the analog of (2,4)-structure on Lie algebras known only for non-alternating orthogonal and Hamiltonian series.

Let L be a finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra, Lℤ be the ℤ-span of a Chevalley basis of L and LR = R⊗ℤLℤ be a Chevalley algebra of type L over a commutative ring R. Let [Formula: see text] be the nilpotent subalgebra of LR spanned by the root vectors associated with positive roots. The aim of this paper is to determine the automorphism group of [Formula: see text].

Abstract The closest infinite-dimensional relatives of compact Lie algebras are Hilbert-Lie algebras, i.e., real Hilbert spaces with a Lie algebra structure for which the scalar product is invariant. Locally affine Lie algebras (LALAs) correspond to double extensions of (twisted) loop algebras over simple Hilbert-Lie algebras , also called affinisations of . They possess a root space decomposition whose corresponding root system is a locally affine root system of one of the 7 families for some infinite set J. To each of these types corresponds a “minimal ” affinisation of some simple Hilbert-Lie algebra , which we call standard. In this paper, we give for each affinisation g of a simple Hilbert-Lie algebra an explicit isomorphism from g to one of the standard affinisations of . The existence of such an isomorphism could also be derived from the classiffication of locally affine root systems, but for representation theoretic purposes it is crucial to obtain it explicitly as a deformation between two twists that is compatible with the root decompositions. We illustrate this by applying our isomorphism theorem to the study of positive energy highest weight representations of g. In subsequent work, this paper will be used to obtain a complete classification of the positive energy highest weight representations of affinisations of .

We investigate the representations of the hyperalgebras associated to the map algebras [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is any finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra and [Formula: see text] is any associative commutative unitary algebra with a multiplicatively closed basis. We consider the natural definition of the local and global Weyl modules, and the Weyl functor for these algebras. Under certain conditions, we prove that these modules satisfy certain universal properties, and we also give conditions for the local or global Weyl modules to be finite-dimensional or finitely generated, respectively.

Let [Formula: see text] be an untwisted affine Kac–Moody Lie algebra. The top of every irreducible highest weight integrable [Formula: see text]-module is the finite-dimensional irreducible [Formula: see text]-module, where the action of the simple Lie algebra [Formula: see text] is given by zeroth products arising from the underlying vertex operator algebra theory. Motivated by this fact, we consider zeroth products of level [Formula: see text] Frenkel–Jing operators corresponding to Drinfeld realization of the quantum affine algebra [Formula: see text]. By applying these products, which originate from the quantum vertex algebra theory developed by Li, on the extension of Koyama vertex operator [Formula: see text], we obtain an infinite-dimensional vector space [Formula: see text]. Next, we introduce an associative algebra [Formula: see text], a certain quantum analogue of the universal enveloping algebra [Formula: see text], and construct some infinite-dimensional [Formula: see text]-modules [Formula: see text] corresponding to the finite-dimensional irreducible [Formula: see text]-modules [Formula: see text]. We show that the space [Formula: see text] carries a structure of an [Formula: see text]-module and, furthermore, we prove that the [Formula: see text]-module [Formula: see text] is isomorphic to the [Formula: see text]-module [Formula: see text].

AbstractThe classification of complex or real finite dimensional Lie algebras which are not semi simple is still in its early stages. For example, the nilpotent Lie algebras are classified only up to dimension 7. Moreover, to recognize a given Lie algebra in the classification list is not so easy. In this work, we propose a different approach to this problem. We determine families for some fixed invariants and the classification follows by a deformation process or a contraction process. We focus on the case of 2- and 3-step nilpotent Lie algebras. We describe in both cases a deformation cohomology for this type of algebras and the algebras which are rigid with respect to this cohomology. Other

AbstractA Hom-structure on a Lie algebra (g,[,]) is a linear map σ W g σ g which satisfies the Hom-Jacobi identity: [σ(x), [y,z]] + [σ(y), [z,x]] + [σ(z),[x,y]] = 0 for all x; y; z ∈ g. A Hom-structure is referred to as multiplicative if it is also a Lie algebra homomorphism. This paper aims to determine explicitly all the Homstructures on the finite-dimensional semi-simple Lie algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. As a Hom-structure on a Lie algebra is not necessarily a Lie algebra homomorphism, the method developed for multiplicative Hom-structures by Jin and Li in [J. Algebra 319 (2008): 1398–1408] does not work again in our case. The critical technique used in this paper, which is completely different from that in [J. Algebra 319 (2008): 1398– 1408], is that we characterize the Hom-structures on a semi-simple Lie algebra g by introducing certain reduction methods and using the software GAP. The results not only improve the earlier ones in [J. Algebra 319 (2008): 1398– 1408], but also correct an error in the conclusion for the 3-dimensional simple Lie algebra sl2. In particular, we find an interesting fact that all the Hom-structures on sl2 constitute a 6-dimensional Jordan algebra in the usual way.
