We study the impact of a non-vanishing (positive) cosmological constant on the innermost and outermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs and OSCOs, respectively) within massive gravity in four dimensions. The gravitational field generated by a point-like object within this theory is known, generalizing the usual Schwarzschild–de Sitter geometry of General Relativity. In the non-relativistic limit, the gravitational potential differs by the one corresponding to the Schwarzschild–de Sitter geometry by a term that is linear in the radial coordinate with some prefactor γ, which is the only free parameter. Starting from the geodesic equations for massive test particles and the corresponding effective potential, we obtain a polynomial of fifth order that allows us to compute the innermost and outermost stable circular orbits. Next, we numerically compute the real and positive roots of the polynomial for several different structures (from the hydrogen atom to stars and globular clusters to galaxies and galaxy clusters) considering three distinct values of the parameter γ, determined using physical considerations, such as galaxy rotation curves and orbital precession. Similarly to the Kottler spacetime, both ISCOs and OSCOs appear. Their astrophysical relevance as well as the comparison with the Kottler spacetime are briefly discussed.

Abstract A rook placement is a subset of a root system consisting of positive roots with pairwise non-positive inner products. To each rook placement in a root system one can assign the coadjoint orbit of the Borel subgroup of a reductive algebraic group with this root system. Degenerations of such orbits induce a natural partial order on the set of rook placements. We study combinatorial structure of the set of rook placements in An− 1 with respect to a slightly different order and prove that this poset is graded.

Two generalized mathematical models with memory for the concentration of tumor cells have been analytically studied using the cylindrical coordinate and the integral transform methods. The generalization consists of the formulating of two mathematical models with Caputo-time fractional derivative, models that are suitable to highlight the influence of the history of tumor evolution on the present behavior of the concentration of cancer cells. The time-oscillating concentration of cancer cells has been considered on the boundary of the domain. Analytical solutions of the fractional differential equations of the mathematical models have been determined using the Laplace transform with respect to the time variable and the finite Hankel transform with respect to the radial coordinate. The positive roots of the transcendental equation with Bessel function J0(r)=0, which are needed in our study, have been determined with the subroutine rn=root(J0(r),r,(2n−1)π/4,(2n+3)π/4),n=1,2,… of the Mathcad 15 software. It is found that the memory effects are stronger at small values of the time, t. This aspect is highlighted in the graphical illustrations that analyze the behavior of the concentration of tumor cells. Additionally, the concentration of cancer cells is symmetric with respect to radial angle, and its values tend to be zero for large values of the time, t.

Abstract For a Weyl group W of rank r, the W-Catalan number is the number of antichains of the poset of positive roots, and the W-Narayana numbers refine the W-Catalan number by keeping track of the cardinalities of these antichains. The W-Narayana numbers are symmetric – that is, the number of antichains of cardinality k is the same as the number of cardinality $r-k$ . However, this symmetry is far from obvious. Panyushev posed the problem of defining an involution on root poset antichains that exhibits the symmetry of the W-Narayana numbers. Rowmotion and rowvacuation are two related operators, defined as compositions of toggles, that give a dihedral action on the set of antichains of any ranked poset. Rowmotion acting on root posets has been the subject of a significant amount of research in the recent past. We prove that for the root posets of classical types, rowvacuation is Panyushev’s desired involution.

Our basic objects will be compact, even-dimensional, locally symmetric Riemannian manifolds with strictly negative sectional curvature. The goal of the present paper is to investigate the prime geodesic theorems that are associated with this class of spaces. First, following classical Randol’s appraoch in the compact Riemann surface case, we improve the error term in the corresponding result. Second, we reduce the exponent in the newly acquired remainder by using the Gallagher–Koyama techniques. In particular, we improve DeGeorge’s bound Oxη, 2ρ − ρn ≤ η < 2ρ up to Ox2ρ−ρηlogx−1, and reduce the exponent 2ρ − ρn replacing it by 2ρ − ρ4n+14n2+1 outside a set of finite logarithmic measure. As usual, n denotes the dimension of the underlying locally symmetric space, and ρ is the half-sum of the positive roots. The obtained prime geodesic theorem coincides with the best known results proved for compact Riemann surfaces, hyperbolic three-manifolds, and real hyperbolic manifolds with cusps.

A new Weber-type integral transform and its inverse are defined for the representation of a function f(r,t), (r,t)∈[R,1]×[0,∞) that satisfies the Dirichlet and Robin-type boundary conditions f(R,t)=f1(t), f(1,t)−α∂f(r,t)∂r|r=1=f2(t), respectively. The orthogonality relations of the transform kernel are derived by using the properties of Bessel functions. The new Weber integral transform of some particular functions is determined. The integral transform defined in the present paper is a suitable tool for determining analytical solutions of transport problems with sliding phenomena that often occur in flows through micro channels, pipes or blood vessels. The heat conduction in an annular domain with Robin-type boundary conditions is studied. The subroutine “root(⋅)” of the Mathcad software is used to determine the positive roots of the transcendental equation involved in the definition of the new integral transform.

AbstractGiven a semisimple complex linear algebraic group {{G}} and a lower ideal I in positive roots of G, three objects arise: the ideal arrangement {\mathcal{A}_{I}}, the regular nilpotent Hessenberg variety {\operatorname{Hess}(N,I)}, and the regular semisimple Hessenberg variety {\operatorname{Hess}(S,I)}. We show that a certain graded ring derived from the logarithmic derivation module of {\mathcal{A}_{I}} is isomorphic to {H^{*}(\operatorname{Hess}(N,I))} and {H^{*}(\operatorname{Hess}(S,I))^{W}}, the invariants in {H^{*}(\operatorname{Hess}(S,I))} under an action of the Weyl group W of G. This isomorphism is shown for general Lie type, and generalizes Borel’s celebrated theorem showing that the coinvariant algebra of W is isomorphic to the cohomology ring of the flag variety {G/B}.This surprising connection between Hessenberg varieties and hyperplane arrangements enables us to produce a number of interesting consequences. For instance, the surjectivity of the restriction map {H^{*}(G/B)\to H^{*}(\operatorname{Hess}(N,I))} announced by Dale Peterson and an affirmative answer to a conjecture of Sommers and Tymoczko are immediate consequences. We also give an explicit ring presentation of {H^{*}(\operatorname{Hess}(N,I))} in types B, C, and G. Such a presentation was already known in type A and when {\operatorname{Hess}(N,I)} is the Peterson variety. Moreover, we find the volume polynomial of {\operatorname{Hess}(N,I)} and see that the hard Lefschetz property and the Hodge–Riemann relations hold for {\operatorname{Hess}(N,I)}, despite the fact that it is a singular variety in general.

AbstractConsider the sequence s of the signs of the coefficients of a real univariate polynomial P of degree d. Descartes’ rule of signs gives compatibility conditions between s and the pair (r+,r−), where r+ is the number of positive roots and r− the number of negative roots of P. It was recently asked if there are other compatibility conditions, and the answer was given in the form of a list of incompatible triples (s; r+,r−) which begins at degree d = 4 and is known up to degree 8. In this paper we raise the question of the compatibility conditions for , where (resp.) is the number of positive (resp. negative) roots of the i-th derivative of P. We prove that up to degree 5, there are no other compatibility conditions than the Descartes conditions, the above recent incompatibilities for each i, and the trivial conditions given by Rolle’s theorem.
