AbstractWe present an advanced multimodality characterization platform for simultaneous optical and electrochemical measurements of ferrocyanides. Specifically, we combined a fiber-optic Fabry–Perot interferometer with a three-electrode electrochemical setup to demonstrate a proof-of-principle of this hybrid characterization approach, and obtained feasibility data in its monitoring of electrochemical reactions in a boron-doped diamond film deposited on a silica substrate. The film plays the dual role of being the working electrode in the electrochemical reaction, as well as affording the reflectivity to enable the optical interferometry measurements. Optical responses during the redox reactions of the electrochemical process are presented. This work proves that simultaneous opto-electrochemical measurements of liquids are possible.

A bio-inspired manganese molecular catalyst featuring an intramolecular aniline as a proton relay was synthesized and used for hydrogen production. Electrochemical measurements with this complex show excellent activity (turnover frequency over 104 s−1).

Activated nitrogen-enriched carbon/reduced expanded graphite composites (ANC/REG-c) with different composite ratio were prepared by in-situ polymerization, carbonization, activation and reduction of aniline and expanded graphite. These were characterized by XPS, SEM and electrochemical measurements. XPS shows that N atoms exist in the ANC and ANC/REG-c. Compared to mechanical mixture of ANC and REG(ANC/REG-m), ANC/REG-c shows lower resistance and higherCp1(185.4 F/g) vs 124.3 F/g of ANC/REG-m measured by CV due to the introduction of the composite sturcture. When the composite ratio of ANC/REG-c is 6:1, the ANC/REG-c shows the highestCp1(264.0 F/g) and its symmetric supercapacitor also shows the best synthetical electrochemical performances. The optimal supercapacitor presents good cycle stability. ANC/REG-c is a suitable electrode material for supercapacitors.

In this study, we compared the bio-corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of a ZrTi -based BMGMC ( Zr 58.5 Ti 14.3 Ni 4.9 Cu 6.1 Nb 5.2 Be 11.0). The Ti - 6Al - 4V alloy was used as a reference material. By utilizing the electrochemical measurements and M3T3 cell culture, the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of this BMGMC were evaluated. The BMGMC displayed high positive corrosion potentials and low corrosion current densities, which indicated that this material exhibited a highly improved corrosion resistance than the Ti alloy. The cells could adhere on the surface of this BMGMC and exhibited improved cellular behaviors, such as cellular viability and cytoskeketal structure. In summary, the ZrTi -based BMGMC showed great potential for applications in the hard tissue implants.
