This study aims to determine the degree of reliability and validity of Multidimensional Measures of Goal Orientation Scale by Zweig and Webster (2004) for measuring the goal orientation of religious educators in private religious school. Goal orientation construct has received much attention from researchers as to understand how one build, acquire or demonstrate proficiency in learning and performance. There are three (3) factors used to measure the Orientation Objectives, namely (1) Performance Approach Goal Orientation; (2) Performance-Avoidance Goal Orientation; and (3) Learning Goal Orientation. 171 Islamic education teachers from private religious schools in Negeri Sembilan were involved in the study. 21 items from original instruments were translated into Malay language and translated back to English language using the back-translation method. The reliability of the instrument was determined by using the internal consistency of Cronbach Alpha's method and the results showed the alpha values were between .74 and .91. The overall reliability coefficient for the total final items was .84. This instrument has met the psychometric characteristics of a good instrument and can be utilized in different studies context.

Goal orientation has been tested all over the world. However, the present study was conducted to validate the Goal Orientation Scale in Pakistan. A total of 141 students from two Pakistani public sector universities participated. A cross validation procedure based on factor analysis was adopted to analyze the collected data. The study was conducted in two stages. During the first stage, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was performed to assess the four-factor structure. In the second stage, the hypothesized four-factor model was assessed by using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The results supported the four-factor model consisting of task orientation, self-enhancing orientation, self-defeating orientation and avoidance orientation. Reliability and validity estimates confirmed the adequacy of GOS as a reliable and valid scale for measuring goal orientation of students in the higher education context of Pakistan. Further research is recommended to test the scale in other fields for getting more robust results.

This study was conducted in line with the opinions of physical education and sports teachers working in educational institutions to reveal the relationship between goal orientation towards teaching and teaching approaches. A total of 279 physical education and sports teachers from different schools in Elazig were enrolled in the study. To determine the target orientation of the research group towards teaching ‘Goal Orientation Scale for Teaching’ and to determine the teaching approaches ‘Instructional Approaches Inventory’ were used. The data obtained are saved by using the licensed SPSS 22.0 package program. ‘One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)’ and ‘Pearson Correlation Analysis’ has been made. As a result of the correlation analysis, a positive and high-level relationship between ‘Goal Orientation Scale for Teaching’ and ‘Skill Approach’ has been found (r = 0.789; p = 0.000). It has been concluded that there was a very high positive correlation between the ‘Teaching Approaches Inventory Scale’ and ‘Developmental’ subscale (r = 0.932; p = 0.000). The relationship between goal orientations towards teaching and teaching approaches was found to be positive and moderate (r = 0.616; p = 0.000). The fact that physical education and sports teachers enrich their teaching by establishing a relationship between their goal orientations and teaching approaches towards teaching in the lesson process will further contribute to students’ learning physical education and sports lessons in a meaningful way.

Introduction. The debate over the education of immigrant pupils relative to native Spanish students is currently a hot topic, but very little research has been undertaken in this area in Spain. The objective of this study was to detect certain possible differences in motivation and strategies between immigrant and Spanish pupils, and also between boys and girls.Method. A sample of 436 secondary school pupils was used. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) was used as a basis, but was adapted in the shape of the elimination of the goal sub-scales (intrinsic and extrinsic), which were replaced by the Goal Orientation Scale of Skaalvik. Various Student’s t-tests were carried out to determine whether or not there were statistically significant differences between the independent samples studied, concretely in respect of nationality of origin and of gender. In interpreting results, account was also taken of the effect of the size of sample. Moreover, MANOVA analyses were also used to check whether there were any interactions between the nationality of origin and gender in respect of the variables studied.Results. In general, it was noteworthy that the main differences found were linked to the gender of pupils, much more than their nationality of origin. Hence, statistically significant differences were found in a total of twelve variables by gender and only three by nationality. Moreover, differences encountered lay mostly in the area of learning strategies rather than in academic motivation and self-motivation.Discussion and conclusion. As a general conclusion for this study, it may be emphasized that the main differences recorded were in respect of gender, much more than with regard to the nationality of origin. More specific studies would be desirable so as to develop further this line of investigation, which is novel in a Spanish context.
