A waterborne polyurethane-based polymeric dye (WPU-CFBB) was synthesized by anchoring 1, 4-bis(methylamino)anthraquinone (CFBB) to waterborne polyurethane chains. The number molecular weight, glass transition temperature, and average emulsion particle size for the polymeric dye were determined, respectively. This polymeric dye exhibited intriguing optical behaviors. The polymeric dye engendered two new absorption bands centered at about 520 nm and 760 nm if compared with CFBB in UV-vis spectra. The 760 nm peak showed hypsochromic shift with the decrease of average particle sizes. The polymeric dye dramatically demonstrated both hypsochromic and bathochromic effects with increasing temperature. The fluorescence intensity of the polymeric dye was much higher than that of CFBB. It was found that the fluorescence intensities would be enhanced from 20°C to 40°C and then decline from 40°C to 90°C. The fluorescence of the polymeric dye emulsion was very stable and was not sensitive to quenchers.

Several cationic water-based polyurethanes end-capped with silicone coupling agent with different ion abundance are prepared. The effects of ion abundance of those polyurethanes on its emulsion particle size distribution, wet rubbing fastness improvement, hydrophility and soft handle are studied. The results show that the sample with moderate cationic ion abundance has optimal efficiency for color fixing of reactive dyes, and the quaterized cationic groups in polyurethane molecule should has positive contribution to hydrophility and soft handle of the treated fabric, especially for the color fabric treated with higher concentration polyurethane emulsion.

Under the action of initiator(BPO), the α-methyl acrylic acid (α-MAA), butyl hexafluorobutyl methacrylate (HFMA) and other monomers are graft copolymerized into epoxy molecular. By adding N, N-dimethyl ethanolamine, fluorine-containing water-based epoxy resin emulsion can be prepared. By orthogonal experiments, the amount of acrylic monomer, BPO dosage, grafting temperature and other optimum conditions can be determined. Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) characterization confirms acrylic monomers successfully grafted to the epoxy resin molecules. The study focuses on the effect of different content of HFMA on modified emulsion particle size and contact angle of coating. The results shows that the introduction of HFMA monomer made the smallest average particle size of emulsion low to 165 nm, and the contact angle against water is increased by 20°. After determining the conventional and environmental performance of the emulsion, the results shows that this preparation of epoxy resin emulsion can fully meet the requirements of waterborne coatings.

Waterborne polyurethane (WPU) emulsions were prepared with Tung oil anhydride-ester polyol (TOAEP) as modifier via the acetone process. The structure, morphology, emulsion particle size, thermal property and mechanical property of the Modified WPU were investigated by FT-IR, SEM, Laser particle size analysis, TG and tensile test, respectively. The experimental results show that the modified WPU emulsion particle size increases along with the growth of weight content of TOAEP. Compared with the unmodified WPU emulsion film, water and toluene absorption of the modified WPU emulsion film have decreased significantly, indicating that water and solvent resistance are remarkably improved after the modification. Tensile test shows that the tensile strength of the modified WPU emulsion film increases with the content of TOAEP while the reverse is true for the elongation at break. The characteristic thermo-decomposition temperatures of WPU have been increased notably after modification by the introduction of TOAEP which indicates that the heat resistance has been improved after modification. Morphology analysis shows that the soft segment phase and hard segment phase in the WPU are more compatible after modification.
