In today’s high-choice media environment, some scholars are concerned that people selectively consume media content based on personal interests and avoid others, which might lead to audience fragmentation across different content genres. Individually, there might be trade-offs between those genres, especially entertainment versus news. This study analyzed a large user engagement dataset (~40,000 users’ comments) collected from the Chinese information application Toutiao, one of the most popular information distribution platforms in China. The results showed that (1) the commenters were not fragmented between content genres, and (2) the users’ news engagement was positively associated with their entertainment engagement. The findings indicate that the availability of high media choices will not reduce the news engagement of those who have strong interest in entertainment. Instead, news engagement might increase alongside the augmentation of the sum of information engagement. Finally, we discussed the differences between relative news engagement and absolute news engagement.

With the technological developments, it becomes necessary to use digital tools within or outside the classroom which can enhance the differentiation process. Digital differentiation emerges because of all these reasons that answer students' needs with the usage of technology. The purpose of this chapter is to introduce digital differentiation as a strategy used in gifted education. Digital differentiation can be carried out in traditional classrooms by preparing digital differentiation packages which includes three types of different content or in online environments by using learning management systems besides digital differentiation packages. In this chapter, strategies used in gifted education will be explained and then digital differentiation will be presented and the tools that can be used exemplified. Then how the digital differentiation can be carried out in both traditional classrooms and online environments will be clarified.

The smart TV market is growing at an ever faster pace every year. Smart TVs are equipped with many advanced functions, allow users to search, chat, browse, share, update, and download different content. That is one of the reason why smart TVs became a target for the hacker community. In this article, we decided to test security of Tizen operating system, which is one of the most popular smart TV operating systems. Tizen is used on many different devices including smartphones, notebooks, wearables, infotainment systems, and smart TVs. By now, there are articles which present security mechanisms of Tizen OS, and sometimes with a way to bypass them; however, none of them are applicable to the smart TVs. In the article, we focused on developing an algorithm that will allow us to gain root access to the smart TV. The proposed attack scenario uses CVE-2014-1303 and CVE-2015-1805 bugs to bypass or disable security mechanisms in Tizen OS and finally gain root access.

In 22 small anthropogenic reservoirs with an area of 0.4 to 62 ha located in the territory of the Udmurt Republic, individuals of different fish species were captured and water samples were taken in late spring for analysis of NO3–, NO2– and NH4+ content. In many reservoirs, concentrations of ammonium exceed the maximum permissible according to the fishing standards for water quality, and in some this is also the case with nitrites. Ponds with zooplanktophages (bleak Alburnus alburnus (L.) and belica Leucaspius delineates (Heckel)) present in fish communities were statistically significantly different in the increased content of total dissolved mineral nitrogen from reservoirs where these two fish species were not registered. In perch and roach reservoirs, the numerical proportion of river perch Perca fluviatilis was negatively and statistically significantly related to the level of their contamination with nitrogen ionic forms.

The article deals with the understanding, assessment criteria and accounting for the commission of a crime in a state of intoxication as an aggravating circumstance in the science of criminal law and in judicial practice. Application of Part 1.1 of Art. 63 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in practice shows that the difficulties faced by the court (judge) and the authors dealing with this problem are due to the imperfection of this norm, a different idea of the internal legal nature of the circumstance in question, therefore, a different content of its legal and criminological grounds. The main question that they are trying to solve is whether the state of intoxication contributed to the commission of a crime, while the state of intoxication as a circumstance aggravating punishment must be assessed in conjunction with the consequences of the committed criminal act.

The article examines the everyday and cultural traditions of the Russian population of interwar Сhisinau based on sources of personal origin. There were selected and analyzed unpublished memoirs of contemporaries who belonged to the noble and intelligent urban stratum, kept in the personal funds of the National Archives of Republic of Moldova. The range of topics and plots is very wide, but Russian problems are implicitly present in all memoirs. Describing everyday habits, leisure, professional occupations, social activities of the Russian-speaking intelligentsia of those years, the authors reflect the world outlook and opinions inherent in their ethno-cultural environment. The studied memoirs show that the everyday life and culture of the Russian population of the 1920s and 30s reflected continuity with those that were characteristic of the previous decades. During the period when Bessarabia was part of Royal Romania, the Russian community, being in new social and ideological conditions, tried to preserve their religious and cultural forms of everyday life. However, while remaining outwardly unchanged, many traditions were filled with a different content moving from social to private life. These personal documents and memoirs allow us to focus on the key topic in ethnology: investigation of the daily life of the Russian population in Bessarabia during the interwar period, less studied in historical discourse.
