AbstractThe deformation of large glass substrate in air-flotation system affects detection accuracy of inspection instrument. According to the gas lubrication theory, Timoshenko’s thin film theory and the simulation figure of the pressure distribution of the air film flow field, the air load distribution model of the air film is established, and the deformation expression of the large liquid crystal glass substrate in air-flotation system is given. On this basis, a theoretical design method for designing nozzle pitch of orifice throttling air-flotation system was proposed. Combined with examples, the results of theories and simulation are compared. An experiment on the deformation of the glass substrate was carried out on an experimental prototype. The difference between the experimental results and the theoretical results does not exceed 10%.

The nominal values of structural design parameters are usually calculated using a traditional deterministic optimization design method. However, owing to the failure of this type of method to consider potential variations in design parameters, the theoretical design results can be far from reality. To address this problem, the specular reflection algorithm, a recent advancement in intelligence optimization, is used in conjunction with a robust design method based on sensitivity. This method not only is able to fully consider the influence of parameter uncertainty on the design results but also has strong applicability. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by numerical examples, and the results show that the robust design method can significantly improve the reliability of the structure.

According to the meshing principle of noncircular gears, the meshing characteristic and digital manufacturing technology of eccentric involute gears is studied. Based on analyzing the parameterized modeling of pitch curve, transmission characteristics and convex-concave property on eccentric involute gears, the transmission feasibility of this type gear is proved. Through tooth shape design, CAM calculation and processing simulation, the validity and manufacturability of theoretical design method on this type gear is proved. The research results can provide more systemic theory basis for the design, manufacture, measure and application of eccentric involute gears.

Lyotropic mesophases of both positive (type I) and negative (type II) diamagnetic anisotropy have been prepared. The deuterium magnetic resonance signal from D2O in the sample bas been studied during the process of orientation in a magnetic field. A type II mesophase oriented by a magnetic field in a cylindrical tube perpendicular to the lines of force does not achieve a uniform distribution of directors in a plane perpendicular to the field. The re orientation of a type I mesophase after an initial displacement of the director at an angle to the field has been studied. Previous equations derived for thermotropic liquid crystals are applicable but the velocity of re-orientation was found to be an inverse function of the radius, for nmr tubes of less than 4 mm in diameter, indicating that liquid crystal/glass interface effects are important.
