A highly active and easy-to-prepare Ni based catalyst system is presented for the selective N-alkylation of amines with alcohols that is in situ generated from Ni(COD)2 and KOH under ligand-free conditions.

A rapid strategy to synthesize a highly active PtRu alloy nano-sponge catalyst system for methanol electro-oxidation is presented. The greatly increased Pt utilization, anti-CO poisoning ability and electronic effect result from the porous nano-sponge structure.

A new route to arylhydrazides involving the reaction of two highly active intermediates, the 1,3-zwitterion generated in situ from the Mitsunobu reagent and arynes, under mild conditions has been developed.
