A Ru2P–reduced graphene oxide hybrid acts as a superior catalyst for electrochemical N2 fixation in 0.1 M HCl, achieving a large NH3 yield of 32.8 μg h−1mgcat.−1 and a high faradaic efficiency of 13.04%−0.05 V vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode.

AbstractIn this study, we use nitrogen-doped to improving the gas-sensing properties of reduced graphene oxide. Graphene oxide was prepared according to a modified Hummers’ method and then nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (N-rGO) was synthesized by a hydrothermal method using graphene oxide and NH4OH as precursors. The rGO is flat and smooth with a sheet-like morphology while the N-rGO exhibits folded morphology. This type of folding of the surface morphology can increase the gas sensitivity. The N-rGO and the rGO sensors showed n-type and p-type semiconducting behaviors in ambient conditions, respectively, and were responsive to low concentrations of NO gases (< 1000 ppb) at room temperature. The gas-sensing results showed that the N-rGO sensors could detect NO gas at concentrations as low as 400 ppb. The sensitivity of the N-rGO sensor to 1000 ppb NO (1.7) is much better than that of the rGO sensor (0.012). Compared with pure rGO, N-rGO exhibited a higher sensitivity and excellent reproducibility.

AbstractNitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide is successfully synthesized and functionalized with hydroxylated copper ions via one-pot microwave-assisted route. The presence of cationic Cu coordinated to the graphene layer is fully elucidated through a set of experimental characterizations and theoretical calculations. Thanks to the presence of these hydroxyl-coordinated Cu2+ active sites, the proposed material shows good electrocatalytic performance for the oxygen reduction reaction, as evidenced by an electron transfer number of almost 4 and by high onset and half-wave potentials of 0.91 V and 0.78 V vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode, respectively. In addition, the N-doped Cu-functionalized graphene displays a superior current retention with respect to a commercial Pt/C catalyst during the stability test, implying its potential implementation in high-performance fuel cells and metal-air batteries.

AbstractCoMo nanoparticles (NPs) supported on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) were synthesized by a one-stepin situco-reduction of an aqueous solution of cobalt(II) chloride, sodium molybdate dihydrate and graphene oxide (GO) using NaBH4as the sole reductant under ambient conditions. The powder XRD, FTIR, EDS and TEM were employed to characterize the structure, size and composition of the CoMo/RGO catalysts. The as-synthesized Co0.9Mo0.1/RGO catalysts exhibited high catalytic activity for the hydrolytic dehydrogenation of ammonia borane (AB) at room temperature. The as-synthesized Co0.9Mo0.1/RGO nanocatalysts exhibited much higher catalytic activity than Co/RGO, Mo/RGO and the RGO-free Co0.9Mo0.1counterpart. Moreover, kinetic studies indicate that the catalytic hydrolysis of AB by Co0.9Mo0.1/RGO has first order kinetics with respect to the the catalyst concentration, but zero order kinetics with respect to the substrate concentration. The Co0.9Mo0.1/RGO catalyst has a turnover frequency (TOF) of 15.8 mol H2·(mol·Co0.9Mo0.1/RGO)−1·min−1at 25°C. Furthermore, the Co0.9Mo0.1/RGO show good recyclability for hydrogen generation from an aqueous solution of AB, which enables the practical reuse of the catalysts. Hence, this general method can be easily extended to the facile preparation of other RGO-based metallic systems.
