Abstract The development of energy storage electrode materials is important for enhancing the electrochemical performance of supercapacitors. Despite extensive research on improving electrochemical performance with polymer-based materials, electrode materials with micro/nanostructures are needed for fast and efficient ion and electron transfer. In this work, highly ordered phosphomolybdate (PMoO)-grafted polyaniline (PMoO-PAI) deposited onto Au hole-cylinder nanopillar arrays is developed for high-performance pseudocapacitors. The three-dimensional nanostructured arrays are easily fabricated by secondary sputtering lithography, which has recently gained attention and features a high resolution of 10 nm, a high aspect ratio greater than 20, excellent uniformity/accuracy/precision, and compatibility with large area substrates. These 10nm scale Au nanostructures with a high aspect ratio of ~30 on Au substrates facilitate efficient ion and electron transfer. The resultant PMoO-PAI electrode exhibits outstanding electrochemical performance, including a high specific capacitance of 114 mF/cm2, a high-rate capability of 88%, and excellent long-term stability.

We successfully fabricate hierarchical ZnCo2O4@Co3S4 nanowires directly supported on nickel foam by a facile hydrothermal route. The as-synthesized product possesses large specific surface area and short reaction path, which result in superior electrochemical performances as the electrode of supercapacitor (SC). The obtained electrode material shows high area capacitance of 2.02 C g-1 at current density of 0.8 A g-1 with 95.3% retention of initial capacitance after 6000 cycles. Moreover, the assembled asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device using ZnCo2O4@Co3S4 nanowires as anode material displays noticeable electrochemical capability with an energy density of 79.8 mW h g-1 at power density of 1795 W kg-1 and 73.2 mW h g-1 at 9760 W kg-1. In addition, the device shows remarkable cycling capability, maintaining 82.2% retention after long-term cycles. It reveals the as-fabricated material would be promising energy storage materials.

Recently core/shell nanostructures including nanotubes, nanowires, and nanofibers have a considerable attension because multiple or enhanced functionality can be obtained by the synergistic effect of different materials in the formation of a core/shell structure. In this work, porous carbon/carbon core/shell carbon electrode (P-C/C-CE) composed of core graphene and disordered shells were prepared to obtain a new type of carbon electrode materials. The disordered carbon shells were prepared by coating of polyaniline onto the graphene by in-situ polymerization in the presence of nano-sized silica and subsequent carbonization at 850°C. After carbonization, P-C/C-CE showed the hollow structure and crystallinity. In addition, P-C/C-CE exhibited superior electrochemical performance compared to graphene and graphene/PANI composites, which was attributed to the high surface area of P-C/C-CE and the presence of nitrogen groups formed onto carbon electrode after the carbonization of shell polyaniline.
