Autonomous AC electricity supply systems are now widely introduced in agriculture. As the experience of operation of these electricity supply systems has shown, their various properties, determined largely by the type of voltage regulators and sensors used, do not always fully meet the constantly growing requirements for the quality of electricity. Further improvement of voltage regulation systems, and, consequently, the quality of electricity, is associated with the use of technology in them that can implement optimal control laws.

Interpretation of the efficiency of power supply systems is proposed, according to which the main criterion of efficiency is minimization of costs for the operation of the power supply system under certain conditions related to the reliability of power supply, power quality and timing of technological connections. The methodological approach to improving the efficiency of power supply systems for rural consumers requires the development of efficiency criteria that would allow all measures to improve the reliability of electricity supply, power quality, shorten time and improve the quality of technological connections to lead to uniform indicators by which to evaluate the effectiveness of these measures. The costs arising from the operation of power supply systems can be divided into stimulating and providing. Both of these components, in turn, are also divided, while the stimulating costs include those components of costs that stimulate electricity supply companies to comply with the requirements of reliability of power supply, power quality, quality of services of technical connections. Regulation of incentive costs, which include damages from interruptions in power supply, compensation costs, lost profits, etc. allows you to manage the efficiency of power supply systems. Providing costs include investment and operating costs, since these types of costs provide the ability to fulfill the conditions of quality of services provided by electricity supply companies. All components of the costs associated with the values of the time of interruptions in the power supply, the time of the mismatch of the quality of electricity and the time of the technical connections. The dependencies of component costs on the time of interruptions in power supply are shown. These dependencies can be interpreted in the opposite version, as time dependencies on costs. This reading allows them to develop incentive mechanisms for energy companies and consumers to improve the reliability of power supply, power quality and quality of connection services.

This research work analyzed the comparative study of the effect of electricity supply on the performance of small and medium-scale enterprises in Calabar South and Calabar Municipality, using small and medium scale businessmen and women as well as power holding company staff. The objectives of this study to analyze the comparative study of the effect of electricity supply on the performance of small and medium-scale enterprises in Calabar South and Calabar Municipality. The survey research design was adopted and a twelve (12) item structured questionnaire was used to obtain a sample size of 248 small and medium scale business owners and power holding staff randomly selected from the population. The results of the study revealed that there is a significant effect of electricity supply on the performance of small and medium-scale enterprises in Calabar South and Calabar Municipality. The results further revealed that insufficient electricity supply significantly affect the performance of small and medium-scale enterprises in Calabar South and Calabar Municipality. The study concludes that there are enormous difficulties being experienced by businesses in Cross River State and other parts of Nigeria due to inadequate and unreliable electric power supply. Thus an inadequate and unreliable supply of electricity imposes costs and therefore constrained firms’ operational performance as firms suffer high overhead cost due to the deficient electricity supply from the national grid. The study recommends that the Nigerian government needs to consider the issue of power supply reliability very seriously by facilitating both private and public investment in electricity infrastructure.

In this paper, the authors propose an algorithm for interrelated voltage regulation in the power supply system of coal mine which allows to provide a normative voltage level and to minimize the level of active power consumption. A feature of the proposed algorithm is a separate consideration of discrete and nondiscrete variables. Nondiscrete variables are represented as a state matrix. The optimization of nondiscrete variables is performed for each state. The algorithm chooses a state with the minimal active power consumption. The obtained values of discrete and nondiscrete variables are transferred in the form of control signals to voltage regulation devices. In this case, the periodicity of the switching is determined by the resource of the on-load tap-changing device. The use of this algorithm will theoretically allow increasing the energy efficiency of power supply systems of coal mines.

Estimating electric power supply restrictions after the Nankai Trough earthquake and evaluating the need for reinforcing the capacity of lines interconnecting power supply areas, we found that capacity reinforcement of the Chubu-Kansai interconnection line used an electricity supply capability in the 60 Hz area of the western part of Japan after the disaster. We also found that this is effective in reducing risk in electric power supply restrictions, based on certain conditions. We also found by estimating construction and maintenance costs that the capacity reinforcement of the Chubu-Kansai interconnection line reduces risk and costs less than an east-west interconnection line.

Based on the analysis and mathematical models of synchronous electric machines (motor/generator), basing on permanent magnets, presented in this paper, the main importance of alternator AC power sources in the form of starter/generator (for conventional aircraft) and in the form of integrated unit starter (motor)/AC synchronous generator S/G AC (with respect to advanced aircraft concept in terms of more electric aircraft) was highlighted. Additionally, through the analysis and selected simulations of the on-board autonomous power supply system of the modern aircrafts, sources of electrical energy (synchronous motor/generator, integrated unit starter/AC generator) were located in board autonomic power system ASE (EPS, PES). Main components of this system are the electro-energetic power system EPS and the energo-electronic power system PES. In addition, the analysis and exemplary simulations of main electricity sources based on mathematical models have contributed to highlighting the main practical applications in accordance with the concept of MEA.
