A novel class of chiral multidentate ligands have been designed and synthesized from the highly important classic ligand 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and amino acids. The ligands were proven to be able to coordinate with copper ion by forming a novel chiral copper complex, the structure of which was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Minimalistic peptides composed of d- and l-amino acids are attractive building blocks for functional supramolecular materials, including catalysts. d-Amino acids have long been known to promote turn conformations in peptides, yet unexpected twists continue to emerge on their effects on self-assembly. The combination of single-crystal X-ray diffraction and full-atom molecular dynamics have finally unraveled fine details of how l-d-l-tripeptides visit different conformations in solution and establish key interactions in supramolecular structures.

Uniaxial compression tests and hydrostatic tests at pressures up to 27 kbars have been performed to determine operating slip systems in single crystal and polycrystal1ine beryllium. A recent study has been made of wave propagation in single crystal beryllium by shock loading to selectively activate various slip systems, and this has been followed by a study of wave propagation and spallation in textured, polycrystal1ine beryllium. An alteration in the X-ray diffraction pattern has been noted after shock loading, but this alteration has not yet been correlated with any structural change occurring during shock loading of polycrystal1ine beryllium. This study is being conducted in an effort to characterize the effects of shock loading on textured, polycrystal1ine beryllium. Samples were fabricated from a billet of Kawecki-Berylco hot pressed HP-10 beryllium.

AbstractA new type of inclusion complex, S(–)-1 phenyl ethyl ammonium percholorate complex of R-(–)-2-ethyl - N - benzyl - 4, 7, 10, 13 - tetraoxa -1- azacyclopentadecane, has been prepared and studied by NMR, IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The compound crystallizes in space group

Synthesis and characterisation of one trinuclear copper complex, ([Cu3L3O]ClO4) (<b>1</b>) and one nickel complex ([Ni(L'H)2(dmso)2](ClO4)2) (<b>2</b>) with Schiff base ligands: (3Z)-3-((Z)-(1-(thiophen-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazono)butan-2-one oxime (LH) and 1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazono)butan-2-one oxime (L'H). <b>1</b> shows high catecholase activity and has also been tested as a catalyst for the synthesis of benzylimine. <b>2 </b> shows phenoxazinone synthase activity.
