The protection of sensitive loads against voltage drop is a concern for the power system. A fast fault current limiter and circuit breaker can be a solution for rapid voltage recovery of sensitive loads. This paper proposes a compound type of current limiter and circuit breaker (CLCB) which can limit fault current and fast break to adjust voltage sags at the protected buses. In addition, it can act as a circuit breaker to open the faulty line. The proposed CLCB is based on a series L-C resonance, which contains a resonant transformer and a series capacitor bank. Moreover, the CLCB includes two anti-parallel power electronic switches (a diode and an IGBT) connected in series with bus couplers. In order to perform an analysis of CLCB performance, the proposed structure was simulated using MATLAB. In addition, an experimental prototype was built, tested, and the experimental results were reported. Comparisons show that experimental results were in fair agreement with the simulation results and confirm CLCB’s ability to act as a fault current limiter and a circuit breaker.

Vacuum circuit breaker becomes more and more complicated, integrated, high-speed and intellectualized. To insure vacuum circuit breaker in its good conditions, the function of fault diagnosis gets more important than before in the process of repairing. This paper is addressed a model-based fault detection methodology for vacuum circuit breaker. At first, the dynamic model of vacuum circuit breaker is built. Secondly, DTW algorithm is introduced to compute the similarity value between the test data and the theoretical data. At last, the value comparison between the similarity and the threshold concludes whether a fault has occurred or the vacuum circuit breaker has potential hazardous effects. The experimental results show that this method is effective.

Aiming at the arc plasma characteristics of high voltage circuit breaker, a set of multichannel, high speed, the synchronous detecting system is designed. The space distribution and time variation law of electric arc plasma, specially electric arc shape change law, are well reflected. Based on the ARM + CPLD + SDRAM detecting schemes, the system realized the functions of 64 groups optical fibers sampling, 4M/s sampling rate of every sampling channel, and the synchronous sampling. Through the detailed research and design to EMC, system error analysis, visual interface and database as well as the related interface program of ARM, CPLD, SDRAM and so on, has completed the multichannel, high speed and the real-time synchronized sampling, and mass data memory, computation, analysis, curve and animation demonstration and so on functions. The stability, feasibility and accuracy of the detecting system are proved by the practical application.
