Reactions of 5′-guanosine monophosphate (5′-GMP) and N-acetylmethionine (N-ac-l-Met) with the mononucleobase compounds, cis-[PtCl(L)n(9-EtGH)]+ (L = NH3, 4-pic, n = 2; L = en, n = 1) in a 1:1 molar ratio have been studied in aqueous solutions at pH 7.3 using 1H and 195Pt NMR spectroscopy. There is a high kinetic preference for sulfur over nitrogen binding. These results are compared with the trans isomers. Based on low cytotoxicity and a high sulfur/nitrogen preference the cis isomers may also present suitable features for antiviral activity through interaction with specific proteins.

A novel copolymer of poly(acrylamide-co-acrylamido azobenzene) consisting of acrylamide (AAm) and acrylamido azobenzene (AAAB) was synthesized via a free-radical polymerization route by using 2,2’-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator. The investigation of UV spectra of the copolymer aqueous solution that exposed to UV irradiation revealed that p(AAm-co-AAAB) possessed good UV photoresponsive properties. The photoresponsibility was proposed to stem from reversible transformation between cis and trans isomers of azobenzene groups in the side chains. The concentration and molar ratio of copolymer have some influence on the photoresponsive behaviors.

Fluorosilylphosphanes of the type R2SiFPHR′ (R = CHMe2, CMe3, NMeSiMe3; R′ = H, C6H5; 1-4) are obtained in the reaction of difluorosilanes with lithiated phosphanes in a molar ratio 1:1. Diphosphasilanes (5, 6) and a difluorosilylphosphane (7) are isolated as by-products. 1-4 react with n-C4H9Li to give cyclic silylphosphanes, LiF, and C4H10 (8-11). Dilithiated 5 reacts with F2PN(CMe3)SiMe3 to form of a four-membered SiP3-ring 12. The 31P NMR spectra of 9 and 11 show signal coalescence for the cis-and trans-isomers at room temperature. The crystal structure of the cis-isomer of 11 has been determined. The substituted ring 13 is prepared in the reaction of lithiated 9 and Me2SiF2

The photochemical behavior of 4′-amino-, 4′-dimethylamino-, 4′-diethylamino-, and 4′-di-n-propylamino-substituted trans-2-styrylpyridine were studied. Ultraviolet irradiation of aqueous solutions of the bishydrochlorides and methiodide–hydrochlorides for moderate periods of time produced mixtures of the corresponding cis and trans isomers. Long irradiation times produced the corresponding dimers in all cases except that of trans-4′-di-n-propyl-amino-2-styrylpyridine. The cis isomers of the free bases and methiodides were isolated from the cis–trans mixtures. The trans-methiodides are not photochemically labile. The spectra of each pair of isomers were determined in water and in 50% methanol–water, with the exception of the 4′-di-n-propylamino derivative, which is not sufficiently water soluble. In addition, the spectra of the corresponding methiodides, hydrochlorides, bishydrochlorides, and methiodide–hydrochlorides were determined. The basic strengths of the nitrogens in the cis–trans isomer pairs of the free bases and methiodides have been determined spectroscopically in water and in 50% methanol-water.
