Purpose With the advent of the digital era, the internet has gradually become an essential factor in people’s lives. Its increasing popularity has also caused e-commerce to thrive, and has increased the power of online marketing. In recent years, social commerce has emerged as a new mode of operation which can be distinguished from traditional e-commerce. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach The main purpose of this study is to determine which factors influence a consumer’s behavioral intention in the context of social commerce websites, and to explore overall purchase intentions based on the consumer’s cognitive evaluation. The examination reveals that consumers’ multidimensional perceptions influence both their perceptions of value and their purchase intentions. Other related social awareness factors explored by this study are also shown to influence customers’ purchase intentions. Findings In summary, the results show that perceived value and social awareness factors influence customers’ purchasing decisions and behavioral intentions for different gender. These findings have significant theoretical and managerial implications. Originality/value Social commerce is a subset of e-commerce brought about by the development of social networking. Activities conducted on social networking websites can be considered as a form of social commerce. In Taiwan, social commerce is still in the early stages of development.

ABSTRACT:It is investigated, in this written work, the emerging digital genre personal profile at social networking websites and the communicative purpose more frequent when the subjects propose themselves to use this type of genre. It is adopted in this sense, a socio-rhetorical perspective of genre analysis, considering that this has given a new meaning to the forms of relationships between people to the digital world, as it is presented in a Web-mediated way. The main theoretical basis is based in the study of discourse genres, by Bakhtin (2011), socio-rhetorical perspective, by Miller (2012), definitions of textual genres and communicative purposes, by Swales (1990 apud BIASI-RODRIGUES; BEZERRA, 2012) and Cavalcanti (2014) and the definitions and functionalities of the genre under analysis, by Leão (2015). This is a bibliographic research of qualitative approach with data analysis, in which 10 badoo.com.br profiles were selected, among which five belonging to the researcher's circle of friends and five of a fake female profile, created by him. The results show that the building of friendship ties is the most frequent and obvious communicative purpose when the users look for a dialogue with others at the studied social networking site. It was also found that the analyzed genre combines mixed communicative purposes, between a factual and a virtual reality, besides being a purpose that aims at a personal promotion in its support.

ABSTRACT:This article investigates the research question How is the ethos of violence characterized and what are the differences among the social networking websites Orkut, Facebook and Twitter, regarding the construction of this discursive phenomenon? The objective is to analyze the different levels of ethos of violence found in these social networking websites, comparing them and categorizing their types. For that, a qualitative, documentary and empirical-interpretative research is developed, using the inductive method in the analysis of a corpus composed of 30 initial pages of virtual social networks. The analysis of the data is theoretically based on the analysis of the French Speech Discourse, based essentially on Maingueneau's research (2016, 2013, 2010, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2002, 1998, 1995). Ethos of violence, namely: a) Ethos linked to representations of physical aggression; B) Ethos linked to representations of moral offense; C) Ethos linked to representations of intolerance. KEYWORDS: ethos of violence; discursive ethos; social networks; virtual communities; cyberviolence against teachers.

The fact that people freely express their opinions and ideas in no more than 140 characters makes Twitter one of the most prevalent social networking websites in the world. Being popular in Saudi Arabia, we believe that tweets are a good source to capture the public’s sentiment, especially since the country is in a fractious region. Going over the challenges and the difficulties that the Arabic tweets present – using Saudi Arabia as a basis – we propose our solution. A typical problem is the practice of tweeting in dialectical Arabic. Based on our observation we recommend a hybrid approach that combines semantic orientation and machine learning techniques. Through this approach, the lexical-based classifier will label the training data, a time-consuming task often prepared manually. The output of the lexical classifier will be used as training data for the SVM machine learning classifier. The experiments show that our hybrid approach improved the F-measure of the lexical classifier by 5.76% while the accuracy jumped by 16.41%, achieving an overall F-measure and accuracy of 84 and 84.01% respectively.

With the prevalence of research social networks, determining effective methods for recommending scientific articles to online scholars has become a challenging and complex task. Current studies on article recommendation works are focused on digital libraries and reference sharing websites while studies on research social networking websites have seldom been conducted. Existing content-based approaches or collaborative filtering approaches suffer from the problem of data sparsity. The quality information of articles has been largely ignored in previous studies, thus raising the need for a unified recommendation framework. We propose a hybrid approach to combine relevance, connectivity and quality to recommend scientific articles. The effectiveness of the proposed framework and methods is verified using a user study on a real research social network website. The results demonstrate that our proposed methods outperform baseline methods.
