Purpose Physicians worldwide need to be able to identify and assess suicide risk or behavior in their consults. The proper training of medical staff is an important form of suicide prevention, especially because 80% of the patients who died by suicide were in contact with a health-care service in the year of their death. The purpose of this study is to verify if some of the most important Brazilian medical schools includes discussions regarding suicide in their curricula, and describe them. Design/methodology/approach The study performed a documentary analysis of all Brazilian federal higher education institutions. The analysis involved selecting the institutions that approached the topic of suicide in their curricula, and sorting it by keywords. The curricula that contained such keywords were then entirely read, analyzed and all components found were described regarding course period, workload and approach. Findings Within the 68 analyzed institutions, 19 (28%) included suicide in their curricula with a total of 31 components approaching suicide among them. Those components belonged to different stages of the course and had different workloads and approaches. A total of seven different approaches were identified: Clinical (54.8%); Emergency (16.1%); Medical Psychology (9.7%); Ethics (6.5%); Social (6.5%); Occupational (3.2%) and Forensic (3.2%). Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the study is the first to address medical education regarding suicide in a large number of Brazilian institutions. It is also one of the few studies worldwide to quantify suicide discussion on a large number of institutions using documentary analysis.

In today’s era, shadow education is becoming an important form of education in the education system. The pursuit of shadow education among parents and the dependence of students on it heightens its value. However, with the continuous development of shadow education, its profit-seeking nature has begun to appear, and many educational problems are surfacing in the development process. This paper studies shadow education on the basis of Marx’s educational theories, such as the theory of all-round development and game theory. It analyzes the implications of shadow education which are not conducive to social or personal development, in order to continuously improve shadow education, provide better assistance for mainstream school education, and promote the comprehensive development of primary school students.

Rumor is an important form of social interaction. However, spreading harmful rumors can have a significant negative impact on social welfare. Therefore, it is important to examine rumor models. Rumors are often defined as unconfirmed details or descriptions of public things, events, or issues that are made and promoted through various tools. In this paper, the Ignorant-Lurker-Spreader-Hibernator-Removal (ILSHR) rumor spreading model has been developed by combining the ILSR and SIHR epidemic models. In addition to the characteristics of the lurker group of ILSR, this model also considers the characteristics of the hibernator group of the SIHR model. Due to the complexity of the complex network structure, the state transition function for each node is defined based on their degree to make the proposed model more efficient. Numerical simulations have been performed to compare the ILSHR rumor spreading model with other similar models on the Sina Weibo dataset. The results show more effective ILSHR performance with 95.83% accuracy than CSRT and SIR-IM models.

Abstract Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) usually accompanies with sympathetic excitation, and paradoxical sympathetic hyperactivity (PSH) may be detrimental to the prognosis of TBI sufferers. Neutrophils can form neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) to get involved in the neuroinflammation after TBI. As an important form of NETs, HMGB1 were found to activate the expression of AP1, which can increase the formation of IL-1β in microglia. Considering that IL-1β is able to regulate sympathoexcitation, it is reasonable to infer that HMGB1/AP1 signaling plays an important role in sympathoexcitation after TBI. Methods: In this present study, rat model with diffuse axonal injury (DAI) was established. The existance of NETs and the expression level of HMGB1/AP1/IL-1β in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) after DAI were examined by immunofluorescence and Western blot (WB). The role of HMGB1/AP1 in the activation of microglia, secretion of IL-1β and sympathoexcitaiton were identified in vitro. Moreover, stereotaxic injection of anti-HMGB1 or HMGB1 was conducted to further validate the effect of HMGB1/AP1 pathway on sympathoexcitation after TBI.Results: The indicators of sympathoexcitation, including mean arterial pressure and serum catecholamine, increased and peaked at 72 hours after TBI. The formation of NETs was observed in PVN after injury, whereas, no NETs were found in the control group. And meanwhile, levels of NETs in PVN were higher than that in the para-PVN tissues after the injury. In vitro experiments showed that HMGB1 can promote the activation of microglia as well as increase the expression of AP1 and IL-1β. In vivo experiments suggested HMGB1 have an impact on the expression of AP1 and IL-1β in the PVN, and further controlling the sympathoexcitation after TBI.Conclusion: NETs might mediate sympathoexcitation after TBI through microglial activation in the PVN in a HMGB1/AP1/IL-1β dependent way.

ABSTRACT Biochar, which has emerged as an important form of the transformation and final disposal of biomass, can be used directly in soil or in seedling nurseries. In this study, the use of biochar of different particle sizes and percentages was evaluated in replacement to a conventional substrate used in the production of sugarcane seedlings. To this end, an experiment was carried out based on a completely randomized design, with a 5 × 4 factorial scheme, consisting of five different percentages of biochar (with 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% v/v substitution of the conventional substrate) and four particle sizes (<1, 2, 4, and 9 mm), with nine repetitions. As seedling growth variables, the average sprouting time, sprouting speed index, plant height, leaf number, leaf length, and width + 2, as well as the dry mass of the aerial parts and roots were evaluated. Irrespective of the percentage of commercial substrate replaced with biochar, sprouting time was found to be shorter when 6-mm-diameter biochar particles were used. With respect to the sprouting speed index, it was found that regardless of particle size, the highest value occurred when biochar was used to replace 42% of the commercial substrate. The substitution of the commercial substrate with biochar had the effect of reducing the growth of sugarcane seedlings.

With the continuous development of human society, international meetings have increasingly become an important form of interaction and contact between countries around the world, and occupy a more and more prominent position in the international community. However, with the COVID-19 epidemic, the international meetings industry is in trouble. This paper empirically studies the impact of COVID-19 on the international meetings industry worldwide through a report published by CIMERT. Among the five globe regions, COVID-19 was found to have the greatest impact in Asia, followed by Africa, with Europe, North America and Latin America being the least affected. It was also found that, based on attendance, medium-sized meetings were the most affected followed by large meetings. The small and super large meetings, however, were the least affected. Finally, beneficial suggestions are made on how the meetings industry should develop in the future.

Abstract In this paper I analyze Alessandro Salice and Joona Taipale’s account of ‘group-directed empathy.’ I am highly sympathetic to Salice and Taipale’s account and intend this paper to be an endorsement of their project. However, I will argue that a more fine-grained account of group-directed empathy can be offered, and I seek to contribute to this discussion by outlining at least one way in which different types of group-directed empathy may be identified. I argue that while Salice and Taipale are right to claim that an account of group-directed empathy requires a corresponding account of ‘collective bodiliness,’ there is an important form of collective bodiliness that their account does not fully incorporate, namely embodied interaction between others. I argue that a closer look at the perceivability of interactions between others offers a richer and more complete account of how we can empathetically perceive shared emotions between groups of people.
