The paper presents the concept of recursive Lyapunov function. The concept is applied to investigation of asymptotic stability problem of autonomous systems. The sequence of functions {Uα(i)} and corresponding performance measures λ(i) are introduced. It is proven that λ(i+1) ≤ λ(i) and in most cases the inequality is a strong one. This fact leads to a concept of a recursive Lyapunov function. For the very important applications case of exponential stability the procedure is effective under very weak conditions imposed on the function V = U(0). The procedure may be particularly applicable for the systems dependent on parameters, when the Lyapunov function determined from one set of parameters may be employed at the first step of the procedure.

The paper proposes a method for constructing guaranteed regions of stability of nonstationary nonlinear systems on the plane of parameters of a fuzzy PID controller. It is shown that this method allows to determine the full stability areas, which are significantly larger than the areas determined by classical methods (frequency circle criterion, quadratic Lyapunov functions). This improvement is achieved by using the algorithm for constructing spline Lyapunov functions. This type of Lyapunov functions is based on the necessary and sufficient conditions of stability, while the classical methods are only sufficient conditions of stability. In this regard, on the basis of the proposed method, it is possible to calculate the maximum sizes of the sectors in which the nonlinear characteristics in the channels of the fuzzy PID controller should be located. Examples of the synthesis of fuzzy P, PI, PID controllers for a nonstationary control object of the third order are given. Numerical experiments show that the expansion of the boundaries of nonlinear characteristics allows to improve the accuracy in the steady state, and also to almost double the speed of the automatic control system with a nonstationary object. The advantages over linear controllers are demonstrated. The proposed method guarantees the stability inside the calculated stability regions for any character of the change in the nonstationary parameter, as well as for any character of the change in the nonlinear characteristics in the corresponding sectors.

State observers for systems having Lipschitz nonlinearities are considered for what concerns the stability of the estimation error by means of a decomposition of the dynamics of the error into the cascade of two systems. First, conditions are established in order to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the estimation error in a noise-free setting. Second, under the effect of system and measurement disturbances regarded as unknown inputs affecting the dynamics of the error, the proposed observers provide an estimation error that is input-to-state stable with respect to these disturbances. Lyapunov functions and functionals are adopted to prove such results. Third, simulations are shown to confirm the theoretical achievements and the effectiveness of the stability conditions we have established.

This paper is concerned with the asymptotic stability of delay differential-algebraic equations. Two stability criteria described by evaluating a corresponding harmonic analytical function on the boundary of a certain region are presented. Stability regions are also presented so as to show the method geometrically. Our results are not reported.
