This study intended to determine the moderating effect of Innovation on the relationship between Enterprise risk Management Strategies (ERMS) and performance. The context of the study was the Christian-based hospitality businesses in Kenya. Indicators of performance were both financial and non-financial and data was sought both from primary and secondary sources. The Null hypothesis was formulated for testing the relationship using a significance p-value of p<0.05. The study adopted a positivistic philosophy using descriptive cross-sectional survey design on a population of 76 Christian-based hospitality businesses in Kenya which are unlisted. A 65.8 % response rate was achieved. This concludes that innovationsadopted by Christian Hospitality Sector in Kenya have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between enterprise risk managementstrategies and performance. The results implies that for the Christian-Based Hospitality Businesses in Kenya to improve performance effective enterprise risk management strategies must combine with effective innovative practices in order to perform well.

Abstract. This paper presents a prototype of an interactive web-GIS tool for risk analysis of natural hazards, in particular for floods and landslides, based on open-source geospatial software and technologies. The aim of the presented tool is to assist the experts (risk managers) in analysing the impacts and consequences of a certain hazard event in a considered region, providing an essential input to the decision-making process in the selection of risk management strategies by responsible authorities and decision makers. This tool is based on the Boundless (OpenGeo Suite) framework and its client-side environment for prototype development, and it is one of the main modules of a web-based collaborative decision support platform in risk management. Within this platform, the users can import necessary maps and information to analyse areas at risk. Based on provided information and parameters, loss scenarios (amount of damages and number of fatalities) of a hazard event are generated on the fly and visualized interactively within the web-GIS interface of the platform. The annualized risk is calculated based on the combination of resultant loss scenarios with different return periods of the hazard event. The application of this developed prototype is demonstrated using a regional data set from one of the case study sites, Fella River of northeastern Italy, of the Marie Curie ITN CHANGES project.

Enterprise risk management (ERM) is used to manage, integrate and aggregate all types of risks encountered by the concerned organisation. Despite having established framework and guidelines, the implementation of ERM at divisional level seemed to be lacking. There are gaps in the actual risk management practices that need to be studied and narrowed to ensure a more effective implementation of risk management. Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify characteristics of effective risk management practices and to gauge the effectiveness level at a telecommunication company. The gaps between the actual practices and the expected practices based on twenty-four (24) identified characteristics are identified and compared upon before recommendations are made to close the gaps and further enhance the risk management practices. For the purpose of this research the self-administered, web-based questionnaires were distributed to a total number of 130 engineers who were actively involved with network infrastructure planning, development and maintenance. The feedbacks received indicated that the respondents agreed with the identified characteristics of effective risk management practices and generally agreed that the effectiveness level of current risk management practices in the company is moderate or average. Furthermore, the gap analysis based on the variances indicates that there are rooms for further improvement. The study is important for more effective risk management practices in telecommunication companies.
