Famennian (Late Devonian) echinoderm faunas are poorly known on a global basis, although reasonably diverse faunas have been reported from England and Germany. We have collected a diverse (>500 specimens representing approximately 30 taxa) Famennian echinoderm fauna dominated by blastoids and inadunate, small-calyx camerate, and flexible crinoids from the Hongguleleng Formation, Junggar Basin, Xinjiang–Uygur Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China. Taxa reported here include five new genera and six new species of blastoids along with one new genus and 19 new species of crinoids. Blastoid taxa include Junggaroblastus hoxtolgayensis new genus and species, Orophocrinus devonicus new species, Xinjiangoblastus ornatus new genus and species, Uyguroblastus conicus new genus and species, Sinopetaloblastus jinxingae new genus and species, and Houiblastus devonicus new genus and species. Crinoid taxa include Uperocrinus zhaoae new species, ?Hexacrinites species, Agathocrinus junggarensis new species, Chinacrinus xinjiangensis new genus and species, ?C.nodosus new genus and species, C. species A, C. species B, C. species C, Eutaxocrinus chinaensis new species, E. boulongourensis new species, E. basellus new species, Forbesiocrinus inexpectans new species, Deltacrinus asiaticus new species, Bridgerocrinus minutus new species, B. delicatulus new species, Cosmetocrinus parvus new species, ?Pachylocrinus subpentagonalis new species, “Decadocrinus” constrictus new species, “D.” elongatus new species, “D.” rugosus new species, “D.” usitatus new species, “D.” xinjiangensis new species, ?Graphiocrinus species, Holcocrinus asiaticus new species, and four species of inadunate crinoids that could not be assigned to genera. This fauna is more abundant and diverse than all other Famennian echinoderm faunas in the world combined, and it is critical in understanding echinoderm biogeography and evolution in the aftermath of the Late Devonian extinction event(s) prior to the Carboniferous echinoderm diversification. This echinoderm fauna is “Carboniferous” in affinity and indicates that echinoderm diversification and reradiation were well underway before the close of the Famennian.

AbstractA new genus, Mirocaudagen. nov., and a new species, Mirocauda albilineanasp. nov., are described and illustrated. Because of the nature of the post-tibial spur, this genus belongs to the tribe Tropidocephalini. A key to the 17 Chinese genera (including 3 subgenera) of the tribe Tropidocephalini is provided. Two new synonymies are reported: Malaxa aurunca Yang et Yang, 1986 is a junior synonym of Malaxella flava Ding et Hu, 1986 and Specinervures liquida Yang et Yang, 1986 is a junior synonym of Specinervures interrupta Ding et Hu, 1986. A checklist of genera in the tribe Tropidocephalini from the People's Republic of China is appended.

Only two genera of the cosmopolitan tribe Cephenniini are known to occur in the People's Republic of China: Cephennodes Reitter and Cephennomicrus Reitter. The former is species-rich and abundant, especially in subtropical and sub-Himalayan areas, and so far nearly 80 species have been recorded in China. Cephennomicrus is rare, and only two species have been found in this vast country, in the south-eastern province of Fujian. Two new species are reported to occur in Yunnan: Cephennomicrus yunnanicus sp. n. and C. andreasi sp. n.

A new species, Anteon amabilis, is described from the People’s Republic of China (Zhejiang Prov., Baishanzu). Also Dryinidae were collected and studied from Xizang Zhang Autonomous Region (= Tibet) for the first time that resulted in the discovery and description of the previously unknown male of Anteon fidum Olmi. Additions to the Xu et al. (2000) key are provided so that these species can be discriminated.

The Oriental species of Thaumatodryinus Perkins are revised. Two new species, Thaumatodryinus zhejiangensis and hainanensis, are described from the People’s Republic of China, respectively from Zhejiang Province, Qingliangfeng, and Hainan Province, Jianfengling. A new key to the Oriental Thaumatodryinus is presented.

In 1988, an incomplete skeleton of a stegosaurian dinosaur was found in Lower Cretaceous strata of the Ordos Basin of China by the Dinosaur Project (China – Canada – Alberta – Ex Terra). The material includes an articulated series of vertebrae from the last three cervicals to the first five caudals, and the right ilium. The specimen is identified as a new species called Wuerhosaurus ordosensis. It is the only Lower Cretaceous stegosaur known with an articulated series of dorsal vertebrae, which have been reduced to eleven in number.

Eight new species of the genus Quedius Stephens, 1829, subgenus Raphirus Stephens, 1829 are presented, based on spec-imens from the People’s Republic of China: Q. hegesias (Yunnan), Q. filiolus (Yunnan), Q. hecato (Yunnan), Q. impres-siventris (Sichuan), Q. tergimpressus (Yunnan), Q. dryas (Yunnan), Q. meilixue (Yunnan), Q. zetes (Sichuan). Threespecies, Q. muscicola Cameron, 1932, Q . maculiventris Bernhauer, 1934 and Q. optabilis Bernhauer, 1934 are rede-scribed and illustrated. Each of the new species and of the species previously known is described, illustrated and all avail-able distributional and bionomic data are given. A key to the winged species of the muscicola- group is given. A newspecies, Quedius pseudonymos, is described from Taiwan, based on specimens that were previously recorded from Taiwan by Smetana (1995) under the name Q. maculiventris Bernhauer, 1934.

AbstractWe examined and keyed out the subgenera of the genus Lepidocyrtus mostly created by Yoshii. Although many of these subgenera of the genus Lepidocyrtus are difficult to apply in Europe, America, and Africa, they are easily applicable in East and Southeast Asia. The species of Southeast Asia are placed in these subgenera and a key to the subgenera is provided. A new species, Lepidocyrtus (Lanocyrtus) felpei from Xinjiang, People's Republic of China, is described and the species Lepidocyrtus (Lanocyrtus) fimetarius Gisin is redescribed. Although the Lepidocyrtus fauna of the whole of East Asia differs from the Holarctic fauna, the Central and Northeast Asian fauna are similar in subgeneric make up to the North American fauna, slightly less similar to the European fauna, and totally unlike the Southeast Asian fauna.
