The ‘C–CN’ bond cleavage was applied to the recognition of N2H4 for the first time; the obvious change in color could be used for “naked-eye” detection; the corresponding detection limit was found to be 5.81 × 10−8 M (1.65 ppb); the probe could be applied for N2H4 detection in real water samples.

A N, O coordinating sensor fluorogenically detects fluoride anions (λex = 330 nm, λem = 450 nm) with blue emission and Zn(ii) ions with green emission (λex = 405 nm, λem = 515 nm) as well as colorimetrically detecting copper ions.

We designed a near-infrared ratiometric (2.1 to 15.3, I608/I735) fluorescent probe with a quick response (20 s) based on cyanine polyene derivatives. This probe can detect endogenous hypochlorous acid in HepG-2 cells and determine the hypochlorous acid content in 84 disinfectant and other actual samples.
