The phenomenon of stress among humans, has become a disturbing one and a source of worry and sorrow for millions of people all over the world. This, in most cases, has resulted in deaths, strokes and paralysis, and if these occur with individuals that are bread winners in families, the consequences could be devastating as members of such families who are dependent on the bread winners would be put into untold hardship which could result in further stress related problems. One important cause of this phenomenon is poor management of stress and the lack of a suitable stress management strategy. This paper examines this phenomenon and argues that the natural theorist approach could be therapeutic. The method adopted is expository and content analysis.

Abstract. Stress management in the worksite has become important because of the existent relationship between stress and different types of illnesses. This study attempted to determine the acute effect of rhythm therapy on improvements in employees’ mood states. Fifty-three employees (26 women and 27 men) participated in the study (mean age 30.34 ± 8.76 years), and filled out the Profile of Mood States questionnaire (short A and B version) before and after the one-hour rhythm session intervention. A 2x2 (time x gender) Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) revealed an interaction between time and gender for the Vigor Dimension. Main effects for time were found for all other mood dimensions tested. There was a significant improvement in tension, depression, anger, and fatigue in the participants after participating in the rhythm session. This rhythm protocol is a promising stress management strategy for the worksite.

Abstract. The last several decades have witnessed a substantial increase in the number of individuals suffering from both diagnosable and subsyndromal mental health problems. Consequently, the development of cost-effective treatment methods, accessible to large populations suffering from different forms of mental health problems, became imperative. A very promising intervention is the method of expressive writing (EW), which may be used in both clinically diagnosable cases and subthreshold symptomatology. This method, in which people express their feelings and thoughts related to stressful situations in writing, has been found to improve participants’ long-term psychological, physiological, behavioral, and social functioning. Based on a thorough analysis and synthesis of the published literature (also including most recent meta-analyses), the present paper presents the expressive writing method, its short- and long-term, intra-and interpersonal effects, different situations and conditions in which it has been proven to be effective, the most important mechanisms implied in the process of recovery, advantages, disadvantages, and possible pitfalls of the method, as well as variants of the original technique and future research directions.

Abstract. Despite the substantial attention paid to stress management in the extant coping literature, media use has been surprisingly overlooked as a strategy worthy of close examination. Although media scholars have suggested media use may be driven by a need to relax, related research has been sporadic and, until recently, disconnected from the larger conversation about stress management. The present research aimed to determine the relative value of media use within the broader range of coping strategies. Based on surveys of both students and breast cancer patients, media use emerged as one of the most frequently selected strategies for managing stress across a range of personality and individual difference variables. Further, heavier television consumers and those with higher perceived stress were also more likely to use media for coping purposes. Finally, those who choose media for stress management reported it to be an effective tool, although perhaps not as effective as other popular strategies. This research not only documents the centrality of media use in the corpus of stress management techniques, thus highlighting the value of academic inquiry into media-based coping, but it also offers evidence supporting the positive role media use can play in promoting psychological well-being.
